Hey guys,

Not sure if anyone else is also an avgeek? Just wanted to share this with you because I am constantly blown away by the opulence of the gulf carriers.

I am likely never going to have a spare 20 grand to spend on this BUT I still think it's pretty cool.

I'm an aero sexual and so is @LaArtist

Yes, very impressive. I've flown the Singapore Airlines Suites on the A380 and First Class on Emirates with the shower, and this just blows both of them out of the water.

Left one is the Dreamliner no?

Got a good pic of the Singapore Airlines Suite, and in what way is this so much better? More space?

Well the Residence is like a small apartment and is unrivalled in anything other than a private jet.

The First Class Apartments are more like the Singapore Suites. The biggest advantage on Etihad is that you can have the seat and the bed in use at the same time. On Singapore Airlines, the bed folds down from the wall and makes the seat unusable, so once you've decided to ask the stewardess to make your bed up, it's very hard to change your mind.

I'll post some pics of my trips tomorrow when I'm back from London.

You can do that when you pay your staff crap and are a massively subsidised govt entity. I wonder what will happen to the Middle East 3 when the oil money runs dry, then they will actually have to pay their way, otherwise I see PanAm as a good example of how the once mighty will fall.

Complete and utter nonsense. Do some research.

Where am I wrong, Emirates, Etihad and Qatar are all govt owned airlines, they are all heavily subsidised, they are all operating from hubs which are owned by their parent companies, they have massive advantages in tax, employee cost, the countries they operate from have no unions and poor employment conditions. None of these airlines would be able to operate in the same manor if they were located in any other region of the world. It's been alleged that all three airlines are able to reduce their borrowing costs below market rates by taking advantage of their government shareholders' sovereign borrower status.

Emirates has over 400 widebody aircraft on order, including 208 777, 97 A380's & 70 A350's. No other airline comes close to this level of widebody aircraft on order, they couldn't fill them unless they had the competitive advantage Emirates have from being govt owned and supported.

This is a common allegation aimed at Emirates all the time. It's a myth. Provide evidence.

The reason Emirates is successful is because they have a good business plan and have executed it perfectly. Dubai doesn't even have any oil money anymore, and didn't have THAT much in the first place.

The biggest reason for Emirates being successful is their location on the planet. Modern aircraft are so fuel efficient nowadays that Dubai just happens to be within non stop reach of pretty much every city on the planet and they have built their business around connections. They have completely destroyed yields on the Kangaroo route through the double whammy of their location AND investing in big aircraft like the A380 which gives economies of scale. The same is true for traffic to the Far East. Emirates can connect regional centres in Europe to regional centres in the Indian Sub-continent and the Far East.

They do have lower wage costs but it's not through illegal practices.
