This is not my average gas mileage thread!!! That's coming tonight.

included Zonda, Enzo, CCR and many more!

I guess... still seems hilarious to me.

Hey siko, i accidentally put this thread in test data, i meant to put it in internal combustion, could you move it?

As usual the Japanese dominate the best consumption lists and the Italians dominate the worst.

The Italians may build great engines but they drink a lot of petrol.

A VW Jetta TDI (diesel) had recently won Toyota Prius in fuel economy according in a comparison done by a US magazine.

Hybrids are useless when you can have diesels.

Source for this is...?

Look at this ranking: http://www.auto-broker-magic.com/gas-mileage.html

Japanese are clearly wiping the floor with the Germans.

According to the VW's own specifications, TDI will have even worse MPG than in the upper link I just gave: http://www.vw.com/vwcom/content/objects/pdf/vw_jetta_specs.pdf 35 city and 42 highway? Gee, doesn't sound so good...

what i think is that the mileage has not only to do with the engine, but with the driver, too!

The mileage you get from your car, is of course connected to how heavy your foot is!

100% true... but numbers released by the EPA (or similar agencies) follow a particular set of rules that is aimed to test cars under the same conditions. Unfortunately they are only snapshots of the car's fuel economy.

Remember that all these rating are simply guidelines for comparison.

Also note that these ratings are sometimes very misleading... for instance, the current EPA rating test enables hybrids to show crazy fuel economy, while the Prius' 60 MPG claim is very far off the real fuel economy (reported to be off by more than 30%). As a result, there have been several lawsuits in the US against Toyota.

Toyota Prius = Midsize? :t-crazy2:

Why no E320 CDI under premium midsize luxury cars?

Diesel vs. hybrid: From Detroit to D.C., and back

Gasoline prices that have been averaging more than $2 a gallon have boosted interest in fuel-efficient gas-electric hybrid and diesel-powered vehicles. To see if the technologies live up to their fuel-economy promise, USA TODAY reporter David Kiley drove a Volkswagen Jetta TDI diesel from suburban Detroit to suburban Washington, D.C., last month. He drove a Toyota Prius hybrid back from Washington to Detroit. Here's his report.

Testing a diesel Jetta and hybrid Prius on a drive between Detroit and Washington seemed a natural. Volkswagen and Toyota each said I should be able to make the 500-mile-plus one-way trip on one tank of gas.

The route seemed appropriate because decisions that determine the future of hybrids and diesels will be made largely in corporate Detroit and political Washington.

The verdict:

Prius is comfortable, a festival of technology and unquestionably cleaner-burning than the VW can be today with only high-sulfur diesel fuel available. But the real-world mileage of pleasant-driving Jetta was better than that of Prius, and diesel fuel typically was 16% to 20% cheaper than unleaded gas.

Jetta lived up to its one-tank billing. Prius did not.

I guess you learn something new everyday ojis.;) :D

I set that goal every morning. :usa7uh:

Yes, I saw that article but it's getting a bit too old IMO.

As long as the overrated Prius looses, I am happy. :D

J/K :t-cheers:

The Prius is a city car and I feel that the cars gasoline engine is a little underpowered, hence the poor fuel economy when driving outside of the city.

Interesting list I must say. I see three AMG 63 models made the cut but the 65 AMG models are not listed (unless I missed them), thay must get better milage than the 63 models!:t-hihi:

Btw the Bently Arnage gets aweful milage 10/15. Thats almost about the worst I`ve seen on a luxury car.

I once spoke to a Rolls-Royce sedan driver about the fuel economy of his car.

He said, on average, she gets 8 mpg: 4 mpg with the A/C running. :eek2: :t-hair:
