Die nächste Generation BMW 1er.

Definitive. Tradition , Sporting and for every Lifestyle.
The BMW 1er.

I am giving you a preview of the finshed article regarding the next generation 1er model , which will go into detail over the new Cost efficient modular platform that will be found under each variant.
I would like to stress this is not the old VW way where very car just shared the same platform without anything to differentate the actual car.
Why BMW will continue to lead the direction of premium small cars.
How the 1er will grow without compromise to weight , efficiency or handling? How a range of engines will continue to offer the best efficiency , performance in the compact class.
And why BMW are wanting to experiment in the segment that will grow larger with new exciting concepts for every level of driver.
And when the curtain goes down , the audience erupts for an encore.

The Backbone : The new modular Chassis.

Efficient Dynamics : Why the BMW 1er will spearhead the first premium line up in the compact segment to offer a hybrid drivetrain for each variant.

Efficient Dynamics Prt 2 : Pioneer to Leader - The first generation of 1er brought many efficient technologies to the compact segment .
The second generation will also bring new options and technology that will be seen across the whole BMW portfolio.

Putting it altogether : How the new 1er will resist the usual jump in weight by using lightweight materials and sophisticated bonding techniques.

Efficiency to Performance : Excitement for enthusiasts at every level.

The Final Curtain : BMW 135i (E82) Lightweight BMW Performance Concept ., (Lightweight materials , 2 matt paint options)

X2, Y1 and GT1 ? you are fooling us right scott ? :D I seriously hope the GT1 will be a shooting brake.

Y1 appears to be MINI speedster with BMW badge?

I can't see that happening for my own logical reasoning.

The next gen 1er will still have engines mounted longitudinally and rear-wheel drive. The MINI platform makes use of transversly mounted drivetrain architecture.

It's quite possible that not all of these models will see light of day... could it be that Scott is doing some internet-based market research? ;) :t-hands: ;)

I read somewhere that the next flexible platform will be able to handle FWD, RWD and AWD.

Did not Eni hint at Y-cars being SUV-roadsters?

I just can't understand why...

If you're going to all the trouble to engineer a car for RWD, why bother at all with FWD? Doesn't make practical or economic sense to me.

I couldn't agree more Martin. These unmitigated diversification plans are the same tomfoolery that lead to the collapse of what can now be referred to as Government Motors. Newspaper conglomerates aren't smiling either in these gloomy times as hundreds of highly niche publications have folded.

And oh, I doubt that the majority of BMW dealerships have the necessary space to accommodate an abrupt increase in cars. I approve of several cars listed by Scott but the Y1, GT, Z2 Coupe and X2 are a complete waste. I'll be dammed if shareholders give the chief executive of BMW to take the company down a such a dangerous path.

So the lightweight 135 will based on the E82? Is there going to be successor introduced in the F-whatever series?

The Final Curtain : BMW 135i (E82) Lightweight BMW Performance Concept ., (Lightweight materials , 2 matt paint options)

I find this to be the most intriguing model as it's more tangible in concept and timeline.

Will it be badged Tii? N54 or N55 engined? Possibility of a power hike? Proper LSD? DCT? Questions, questions...

Wish PCValkyrie were here to give his views on this.

Exactly. This must be the Tii version, in matte black or white, that has been rumored for a while. The most important things are weight and LSD. Shave some 100-150 kgs, put on a proper LSD and give it the 326 hp engine. Voila!

Ditch the run-flats as well.

What the current climate has taught us is that many customers are looking to downsize and we have seen in this time 5er customers becoming 3er customers and 3er customers becoming 1er customers.

Since the introduction of the 1er and the two year cool off stage to see if it binds success before expanding the range. We have learnt especially now that people will pay for premium small cars a lesson we learned with MINI and now something we are learning with the BMW 1er.

The 1er was a very different direction for BMW had the Rover experiment succeeded we would never of had the 1er. Now with expansion the Coupe , Sporthatch and Cabrio have expanded BMW sales in many markets.

With the next generation which begins with the BMW X1 we are looking at expanding the range of 1er models as many customers who will return to BMW might take advantage of something smaller , more efficient but with the same level of luxury.

The list regards some concepts that are undertaken as competition exercises that have made it to the final stage , Although some ideas might not happen , it shows the commitment BMW have to making the 1er one of the key profit making models for the BMW Group.

The BMW 1er -BMW performance Concept is something similar to the BMW M3 CSL - more advantage of lightweight materials and specific options aimed at the enthusiast.
Although there will be a similar option for the M3 Coupe including Matt finishes as Glacier Silver , Matt Black and Clay White. But do not think of them as CSL's.

Will this be an "all in" model or will it just get halfway there (no LSD, no proper tires, no proper brakes (which really was the only semi weak spot of the E46 CSL)) and let the enthusiasts take the final steps themselves?

I have waited for Scott's comment and explanation. 'Economy of scale':D

Good customer based research and choosing the correct models, whilst also broadening the appeal of the BMW brand + securing the brands future..That is what it's all about - Logic!

:t-cheers:

BMW is THE Option specialist, just hope Dynamic Drive + Adaptive Drive etc. becomes options on future 1er derivatves????????????:confused::confused::confused::confused:

That would make the appeal even broader - Logic!!? Scott!?

in my opinion the X2 would really make sense if its based on the XCoupe Concept. i see the XCoupe as an anti suv, since it has the presents of an suv but clearly distances itself from pseudo offroad design features
0eb53d7ea5d1a922da578cc7b3940432.webp

its really astonishing how good this design still works
give it some new fresh lines et voila X2

The Xcoupe concept maintains the direction for the Y series which will be a small sedan type sporty Coupe and shooting brake with a semi-command driving position, xDrive and a sliding Targa style roof that will slide behind the rear screen on the Coupe and a full length roof on the shooting brake. Y series cars will be the Enigma Concepts of BMW. Meaning they will be strict niche models. The Y1 series will be two seaters only - You will see it in the not so distant future but not this year.

X2 Is a commanding seating position small hatch with two doors. - Think the original Opel Antara Concept or Indeed Land Rover LRX .

Isn't it contradictionary then to go ahead with developing cars like the 5-Series GT and multiple highly expensive SUV? Especially during an era of reduced spending when consumers stick to pragmatic necessities, traditional choices and forgo unorthodox alternatives.

The SUV:s were to far in production not to release them. The 5 GT did not cost more than spare change to make and it will be a real moneymaker for BMW on account of the premium the customers will pay for it.
