Vs Edmunds Inside Line - Comparison Test: 2009 Audi A4 vs. 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350

Τhe A4 is clearly the best car in the segment right now. It has only possitives and nothing negative.

Here in Greece A4 has won all the tests against C class and 3 series in every one of our car magazines.:D

It has done very well in Swedish magazines too, scoring really good in loading capacity, comfort and interior design compared to the competition. Doing not so well in the driving dynamics, engines and economy departments.

Speaking of 3-series, a facelift is coming soon. Wonder how much that is going to improve an already good car.

Ηere in most magazines A4 is said to be very close to 3 series in dynamics and better than C class. Also better than both in braking distances and gearbox.

Also the 1.8 TFSI engine is said to offer better performance than BMW's 2.0 lt with 170 hp and Merc's C180 Kompressor engine.

I have also heard that the 1.8TFSI is a gem, no doubt Audi have done a great job with the new A4.

I've driven the new Audi A4 and yes it is a nice car but so is E90 and C-class. I wouldnt go trade my E90 or C-class becuase I think Im getting a better car if I buy a A4. All three are close to each other, it comes down to personal preferences and you cant go wrong with neither of them.
But I can understand why Audi owners are changing their old A4 to the new A4. Natural step and its a more fresh design than old A4 and a larger backseat if that is important.

I drove my BMW directly after I drove the new A4 and steering, gearbox and handling is better in my car. but I didnt expect anything else either.

In this comparison, I'll take the Benz... yea you heard it right.

I still love the E90 and the facelift is coming along nicely. The one thing thing that neither the Benz or Audi can touch is BMW's twin turbo inline six. That alone is enough for me to buy the car... the best engine I've ever driven... minus the V10 of course

I'd say these two are the best looking sedans on the roads right now. I think the Merc is one of the best designed Benzes ever.
And the A4...hands down.. I've seen a couple of white and blacks with S-Line packages....oh god!...

I don't get the point of this comparison. If the Audi won on the basis of it's dynamics, why was it fitted with the sports kit and the Mercedes not. Especially since there is no price tag attached to the Audi yet.

Well, I'm sure the fact that Edmunds hasn't really liked the W204 from the get go has nothing to do with it. :D
There's a long term test some where around here where all the they do is pretty much nag on the littlest of things.

The thing about the A4 sedan is that the design simply does not cut it in the competition today. It might have if there had not been any A5. Now it seems just like a stretched and washed out A5.

It is a whole different deal with the A4 Avant, which in my opinion is the best looking estate in the class.

well i own a c22ocdi and i think the exterior its the best best looking in the class by far i have only seen one or 2 a4s and plenty 3ers but when you c the new c on the road it looks awesome in almost every colour and it looks classic and executive in the elegance yet the avant like mine looks sporty and classy and the w204 looks so fresh on the road compared to most cars although you see many w204 s on the road they still lokk so fresh and dynamic

as for the interiro i really love the interior off my w204 i think its a perfect place to be and i think most off the people who criticise it havent even sat in one or driven one..they feel is solid its like you in a sclass i can not find a single part off the interior where the part feels off a poor quality i suppose the buttons for opening or closing the windows maybe the weekest yet they still very good quality and also its so easy to use the phone command evrything is simple and easy only i wish the steering on the avantgarde was a bit thicker simalar to bmw

and the drive and handling well the ride is superb superb the handling is also very nice and sporty ,,yet i admit it wont touch the 3er thats the boss in that department but as for ride and overall package idd say the c is the winner for shure also i wish it came with the 7g gearbox....

Yep that is the thing with the C-Class IMO. There are little pieces to the interior that don't feel up to par, but overall the car has a solidity not seen in a small Benz since the 190 IMO. I had a C300 Sport for a loaner and it felt like a real Mercedes from the sound of the doors closing to the heft of the interior components. All they need to do is upgrade a few of the plastic bits and add some wood on the passenger side to break up the big expanse of plastic.

hey merc1 what interiro parts were you not happy with i agree with you about the wood a bit off more wood or alimnuim would have been nice but i have no complaints personally off the interiro except the window buttons and i find the armrest bit too hard it needs softer leather especially on the long distances

Well that is pretty much it the armrest and other touch points could be softer IMO. Some of the buttons too and I remember thinking the plastic along the center console felt a little cheap, but nothing major like in the previous pre-FL C-Class.
