M3/M4 E30 M3 with S85 V10 Engine!!

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

An amazingly detailed project with some of the most meticulous craftsmanship I have ever seen. Definitely worth reading :eusa_clap:eusa_clap

If the opportunity ever arises, I would love to rebuild an E30 M3 (not necessarily with a V10) for its sheer EPICness! Afterall this is the car that made me fall in love with motoring :usa7uh: The good old days when BMW built cars with passion without giving a hoot about shareholders and the green party. I miss those days.

Yes, very good. But i think they should put a lighter engine, 240kg in a E30 is a lot, in tight turns it must understeers like a pig. Other than that i'm with you. BMW really changed, in my opinion it not progressed but regressed

This is an old project & I've never started a thread here because I always believed there is one! :eusa_thin

Amazing how this forum missed such thread, however, we have got it now here! Awesome job! :usa7uh:

Simply amazing, it must ge like hell, weight of an E30 M3 is a lot less then of a E60 M5, I just the car is driveable, must not be easy to get the road holding the way it should be. But anaway nice piece of engineering. :usa7uh::usa7uh:

This 1989 BMW E30 M3 has a 5.7-liter V10 under the bonnet and costs $224,500

What would you buy for $224,500? A super expensive watch? A supercar? How about a 1989 BMW? Yes, you can if you really want to but you can bet your life’s savings that won’t be any Bimmer.
Recently we stumbled upon a rather interesting proposal on eBay. One seller wants that exact amount of money for his BMW E30 M3. The reason why the price is so high? Well, it has the legendary S85 engine under the bonnet.

That’s right, there is somebody crazy enough out there to replace the traditional S14 4-cylinder mill with a massive 5-liter V10. That’s not all though! The one unit he’s selling was put through the Dinan treatment.

That means it was upgraded from 5-liters of joy to no less than 5.7 thanks to a nice stroker. The gearbox is a 6-speed manual that was built by Mitch Piper of Piper Motorsports specifically for this M3.

Unfortunately, the ad is rather short and doesn’t go into specifics. As far as we know, the Dinan 5.7 stroker engine was good for over 550 HP and that’s a roughly 10 percent increase over the stock output.

While it sound all nice and crazy to have that much power on an E30 you should also consider what made this car great in the first place. Thought about it? Well, it wasn’t power now was it?

Oh no, it was its great balance and the perfectly tuned chassis that made it the car that still haunts enthusiasts’ minds. That’s because it had a light 2.3-liter inline 4-cylinder engine up front that made a decent amount of power (192 HP in its initial guise).

That was enough for a car that had a 50:50 weight distribution that didn’t go over 1,300 kg (1,866 lbs). With a 5.7-liter V10 under the bonnet, that’s nothing more than a dream.

However, no matter how many arguments against buying this car we can find (you can buy an i8, an M3 and still have money left) there’s an incredible interest in it online. The eBay ad has 444 watches as we’re writing this and is viewed 116 times per hour. Let’s see if someone actually buys it too.

So they increased the volume of the engine by reducing the length of the connecting rods?

So, you take out a small 4-pot, fit in a massive V10 and don't think that the handling will be acceptable.

Yes, the numbers might be impressive, but this thing is undrivable in anything other than straight line. Fitting such an engine in such a chassis is plain stupid.

Yup, it's common practice.

In the good old days before everything went turbocharged it was common practice offering one engine block with 2 or three different pistons and rods sets, therefore offering three different engines.

You had your entry level M54B22, which with larger pistons would transform into an M54B25. Fit the new rods and you get yourself an M54B30. That's 320i to 325i and to 330i, when the glorious E46 was in sale.

Won't a smaller compression ratio have a very negative affect on the characteristics of the engine?

Alpina built quite a few 3,5 litre E30 M3's, the B3.5. Hartge built a number with BMW's V12 and a few with the E39 V8.

This will be a mighty fine drifting machine.

Take it to G power to finish it off, with like 800/900 hp.

It will have much heavier steering, unless they fitted a power rack and also more understeer in sharp slow corners due to that heavy engine, but it will probably have a heavy oversteering rear end once you floor the throttle mid corner. Ouch! Heavy drifter for sure!

With an extra 6 cylinders at the front will be more nose-heavy even than an Audi!

:p

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
