I'm home on winter break and my dad just got a new M5. The M5 looks way better in person than any picture I've seen. The car only has 400 miles, which means I can't go above 5,500 rpm, but I've been driving it for the last three hours and I'm impressed. A few thoughts. Silverstone II is almost light blue. It's really really blue for a silver. I like it, but it's not what many pictures make it out to be. SMG is great as long as you stay out of automatic mode. It's really easy to use and smooth gear changes can be smooth if you know what you're doing. The only thing i don't like is that the car will roll backwards on evey the slightets incline from a stop. The ride is a lot smoother than I thought it would be. The ride feels about as stiff as my X5. Heads Up display is slow, really slow. It feels like there is a huge delay between what RPM you're actually at and what the display tells you. The M5 sounds pitiful at start up and at any engine speed below 4K. In the end, I love it. Seriously, it's a wonderful car to drive and it's only going to get better after it's broken in. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Here are a couple of pictures I took after I drove it earlier. I'm certainly going to go out and drive more later today.

P.S. my friend and I are going to take better pictures some time in the next week.

wow what a monster.. congrats to you and your dad..

ohh and pull the minus shift paddle against you and hold it for a few secs.. that should stop it from rolling backwards or forwards..
Atleast thats how it works on the M3

btw... congrats.... sounds like a blast.... never an understimated car, the M5! :usa7uh:

Nice stuff man, definitely one of the nicest, most stunning and high-performing cars on the road atm in my opinion.. nice work! Looking forward to the new photos!

More detailed pics of the inteiror please. And I've always wanted to know how you select Park with SMG. Also, what don't you like about the automatic mode?

Sickening! Congrats to you and your dad! Man, that's the best interior combo for the M5. It's like your dad asked me wich to choose. :D

Good luck with the car! :usa7uh:

All I can say. Once the car been broken in it will be a monster to drive. :usa7uh:

Check with your BMW dealer about software updates. There seem to be some software updates for the M5. But I guess its needed for M5 from the first year.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
