Driver's Republic: V8 Supersaloon Shootout

It's like opera: C63 - Baritone. M3 - Tenor.

Personally I prefer a car with a broader sonic range - makes one feel more part of the experience.

Me too. There's nothing like revving BMW's V8s and V10's. It's not so much a rumble that you can feel through your body, but more like something that goes through your ears and melts your brain (and to think I only got it to 6k rpms). I love the sound of revving an engine, any engine. Just as long as they sound strong if that makes sense. The RX8 for example, that I didn't particularly enjoy. I "felt" like I was hurting the engine, not to mention dumping half the world's oil supply into the engine.

When you compare the M3 to cars like the GT-R or 911, it's obviously going to come out short. But we'll take that as a compliment. The M3 is one of the most complete cars you can buy out there right now :usa7uh:

^ Couldn't agree more - the M3 is quite simply the greatest car for the money in any of its generations.

It was only for the briefest of periods where the RS4 eclipsed the E46 in terms of power and grip, only to have its shelf-life curtailed by Audi's strange "halo model swansong" model.

No, as far as I'm concerned the M3 is the smart-money 911 alternative; 95% of the car for 75% of the price. It also helps that both the sedan and especially the coupé are chuffing gorgeous!

Martin, something along this line in terms of sound perhaps? :icondrool
