Don'tblogaboutthis...

It's there .
It is the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept now with a working drivetrain. That is all you will get to see. The same IAA car but now it works.

So we are not going to see absolutely nothing? Any press release?.

How does that make any difference when it's static anyway?

Surely the IAA one moved too as there were videos of it doing so?

What an absolute ruin by BMW, a true ruin. I was expecting some kind of VED production version, and now "this"... But what is "this"? "This" is an absolutely stupid marketing campaign which tried so hard to hype us and claims 30th of September as if it was going to happen something special and just look at this, we´ve been fooled.

I hate to be treated as a fool, and feel someone in laughting in my face.

Congrats, BMW.

I have just noticed that nobody has updated the "Dontblogaboutthis" site.
It should have been updated earlier , Need to get on to the webmasters.

The hourglass debacle was nothing against this, IMO.

Marketing 101: Don't mention a date if you can't hold it.

It's not only dates, but all that attention that BMW seeks from internet media. If you read last weeks posts, you can read about 15 new models from BMW, which are supposed to come in the next 5 years. Probably, not even a third of all these will come true, but it's fun to read it.

What is not funny, though, is grabbing all that attention, with so many threads/posts, with so many people following you, in practically most automotive sites, and then, nothing. Nothing.

We read about the VED concept for a month now. That there is a concept with a new front (similar to the VED) and a rear that looks like the 6er. There's even a page (don't blog about it) about it.

And after the press conferance that the freaking thing was supposed to be shown, we read that in the end, this concept is the good old VED, just with a running drivetrain. Bloody hell, I've seen the original VED concept move. What's this mess all about?

And then comes the silence (or the lack of an update, over at dontblogaboutthis)...

I think that once again, this whole thing was a bubble. I was expecting tons of exciting news from BMW, today, and all I got was nothing. At least, Audi showed a descent concept.

Maybe we should really not blog about this.

Somebody at the Mothership f***** up.
Should be rectified sometime tomorrow and we will learn more about the concept Vision Efficient Dynamics "Full Runner".

But as I have made clear over the past few weeks. That the car is still the original IAA Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept with a working drivetrain.

BMW marketing is too occupied trying too create buzz and viral stuff, it is forgetting to deliver real substance. What a polar opposite of Porsche which just delivers the goods and then lets the goods create the buzz.

I've been saying this for the past 18 months but was shot down in flames for voiceing my opinion. Not by you but by various people. BMW are getting free publicity by using internet forums like this. Occassionally they deliver but all too often it's overhyped hot air. I've made my thoughts on creative marketing known for a long, long time.

It seems somebody messed up but even Scott admits....it was just the same VED from a year ago except with a working drivetrain, like it makes all the difference! It's just the same thing rehashed and milked for all it's worth.

We've had many, many incidents of creative marketing building the hype and getting publicity, and then when it's not delivered we complain, and yet we're made to feel overdemanding. Take the absence of the 1M at Geneva this year, when we were teased and teased that it would be there, but then at the last minute it wasn't. If there's a chance it won't be there then don't mention it!! :t-banghea

Somebody mentioned Porsche. Yep. The 918 Spyder at Geneva. Wham! Out of the blue. That's the way to do it. :eusa_clap

Efficient Dynamics - From Research to Road.

Extracting maximum driving pleasure from every drop of fuel: this is the aim of EfficientDynamics. With an array of intelligent technologies, it is able to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions while simultaneously enhancing your vehicle’s dynamic performance.
The array of leading-edge technologies that are part of the EfficientDynamics philosophy are as diverse as they are innovative. From new fuel combustion technologies to lighter construction materials, low-friction components and improved aerodynamics all the way to comprehensive and highly sophisticated energy management. However, the aim of each of these innovations is the same: to deliver maximum driving pleasure from a minimum of fuel.

But they did this in Frankfurt a year ago! The VED was revealed, with technical details, along with footage of it in motion, and with the claimed figures of around 75mpg. Why are they doing it all again and just repeating themselves? They must think we're stupid. To be fair, a lot of people are and don't see it for what it is.

This is just rehashing old information into something that appears "news" but it isn't at all!

Exactly, Betty:t-cheers:

I have not commented on the post, nothing new IMO.

Horrible performance by BMW's marketing again. Well done lads. A complete no-show.
Not blaming Scott btw, but the team who made this whole don'tblogaboutthis.com farce. And the people responsible for letting it happen.

Little off topic, but about your sig Human:
Opinions are like assholes; everybody has one. The cold hard facts however...hmmmm... ;)

What happened here? :t-hands: Oh, the 30th September date mentioned on that site unfortunately coincided with BMW press event in Paris, so we all thought the VED prototype would be shown there. That was never the case, and Scott has made another mistake misleading us to belive the car will be still shown there. From the BMW info on that site it seems they will start testing the real VED prototype in November, and some lucky people will be invited to join the first drives. An that's all. No mentioning of Paris or any other kind of presentation of the car. We were just misled by rumors, mostly initiated by Scott. :t-hands: Just like that hourglass site which was only relevant to the Russisan market, and the 7-series presentation event in Moscow yet BMW guys were able to spin it and make all the ado about nothing. :eusa_doh:

Hmm - I dont get it....
What was your expecation regarding the "dontblogaboutthis" thingy?
Did you really think, that BMW would disclose yet another concept car?
For my part - I am not really interessted in concept cars/vaporware that gets never produced.
Therefore I happily embrace the "official annoncement", that the VED will go for production. IAA 2009 was just concept stuff - no serious plans to build a car like this - just dreaming of it.
Now it is real (at least this way I do understand this message) AND this is such great news.

... and how the specific execution of marketing was done in detail is so boring/uniteressting... :eusa_pray I don't know how somebody could care about this. If the specific style of scott bores you especially... put him on your ignore list.... in fact every manufacturer does this in one or another flavor - but all days discussing here that you dislike the marketing style of one company more than another is a platitude.

Well atleast bmw has no need of fear that ppl will blog about this..
Not much to write home about exactly;)
