The producers of Top Gear have kept the identity of "The Stig" a closely-guarded secret. With such a wide audience and fan base, that's led to endless speculation over the true identity of the show's phantom test driver, and one British celebrity is now claiming he knows who it is.

Guests on the show's "a star in a reasonably-priced car" segment work with The Stig to perfect their hot lap on Top Gear's test track, but none have ever revealed his identity. Comedian Omid Djalili, however, is insistent that The Stig is actually McLaren's star pilot Lewis Hamilton. Djalili's revelation is based on speculation garnered from speaking with The Stig, who purportedly revealed his age to the comedian, and with the show's producers, who insisted two years ago that the true Stig would become famous by now. Die-hard fans, however, will point to evidence to the contrary. Think Djalili's on to something, or is he just grabbing at gasoline-soaked straws?
Comedian Omid Djalili has claimed that Top Gear's The Stig is F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.

The identity of The Stig, who races in the Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car feature on the show, has never been revealed by producers.

However, Djalili claims he has worked out that Hamilton must be the driver by questioning the show's bosses when he guested on the show.

"Do I know who The Stig is? Yes!" Djalili told Nuts. "When I was on Top Gear around two years ago, I asked the The Stig how old he was and he said, 'I'm 21' - the same age Lewis Hamilton would've been two years ago.

"And when I asked the producers who The Stig is, they said, 'All you need to know is that, in about two years' time you'll hear a lot about the person who plays him.

"They'll deny it of course because they're sworn to secrecy. I think it's part of the contract. But I'm telling you, it's Lewis Hamilton!"

It was originally Perry McCarthy and then it was Ben Collins and another guy. I'm not sure who it is now, although I doubt it's Hamilton.

My BS meter just exploded. There is no way Hamilton would have any time for this especially now that he's an F1 driver.

Extraordinarily unlikely that it is Hamilton, although that might explain his cracking lap time in the reasonably priced car. :eusa_clap

I was under the impression that it was, and still is, Ben Collins. Has there been anything to suggest he would no longer be in the role?

Having the Stig on list for F1 drivers does not preculde him from also driving under his real name though.

That said, I don't believe that any F1 team would allow their drivers to be involved, partly due to time management and partly due to protecting their asset.

It never has been Hamilton.

Used to be Perry Mcarthy, and mor recently when his race schedule permits, Ben Collins fills the roll of ''The Stig''.

Many racers drivers have appeared as the stig. When the Renault F1 car was driven around the Top Gear test track it was driven by Heikki Kovalainen.

The Stig is a machine. Living tissue over metal endoskeleton. :t-upside:
