What does the new Apple iMac and Audi have in common?

If it really was the case that the design style of a brand like Audi influenced the design of the iMac, maybe, in a similar way to the evolution of the TT, we could expect to see further 3D form development of the iMac in future generations. Audi's design style has become more organic and sinewy of late, moving to less rigid, more fluid forms. Perhaps, when simplicity is exhausted as a design style, Apple may follow Audi down the road even further to a place where machines are elegently sculpted objects and possessing something is just as important as using it.

Very wild imagination. :eusa_doh:

The new iMac (the LCD display) simply resembles ... iPod, not Audi.

IMO it's vice versa: Audi is sometimes called "Apple of automotive world" - regarding the design. So, Apple influenced Audi design ("the purity of simple"), not vice versa.

I always found Apple to have similarities with Audi. Both companies have clean , elegant and timeless designs. In other words "Apple is the Audi of the IT world".:D

hmm maybe they have some things in common..
but the new I mac design?
i do not think so..as the new imac is basically the old imac in a metall shell..lol

Ummmm...NO. Designing a product is very different from designing a car. You have to look at different aspects of aesthetics, ergonomics, etc. These guys are giving AUDI too much credit.

iMac also has a new "grille" around the screen like Audi.:D

interesting connection, but i do agree with it. apple's design language is characterized by simplicity which also happen to be audi's design character. don't think it's a coincidence that i have them both ^^.
i think sony viao's design on the other hand resembles MB's, very fashionable and trendy. i can't find the equivalent for bmw, it's just too wild.

Actually -- both Audi and Apple owe a great deal of their "look" to the British designer Jasper Morrison.

^^
Yeah Sony has really been pushing design forward the latest 10 years. They have many products with killer designs but unfortunately most of the products don't make it to Europe or even US.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
