Yes, now it's four 2012 S-Class (W222) models instead of 6:

Saloon SWB 2012
Saloon LWB 2013
S-coupe 2013
S-cabrio 2014

The previously mentioned two additional ones could be(?) the ML/GL which should join the modular rear wheel drive architecture in the midterm.

For engines:

reengineered V12 with 544 hp
reengineered V12 AMG with 650 hp

V6 NA with 306 hp
V6 turbo with 354 hp (aha! )

V8 turbo with 435 hp
V8 turbo with 517 hp

Even when I find the engines pretty good, it would be awkward to have a V8 with 517 hp and a V12 with 544 hp, the gap it´s not big enough. The reworked V12 with 650 hp sounds plausible, but I´d rather take a 700 hp V8, as was previously rumored.

It's the same mistake with the current MM - it's still based on an S-Class (I know it's the W140, not W221, but still), only this time they'll include them in the S-Class range (S57, S62....) above the S600??

Maybach will be separate and different from the S-Class. Those designations were just used in the article to explain the different models.

The 517 and 544hp numbers are probably for the V8 AMG model and the S600, same as today, not a big difference in numbers but totally different character.

Oh, now I think about it, the 517 hp V8 must be the AMG, which I think will be 544 hp in the end.

IMO for Maybach to become "the brand" in the automotive world, Mercedes need to create something spectacular, and that is not unfamiliar for this great company; something that it was able to do in the past, something from its past, a car that injected so much panache in the Mercedes brand and made it legendary that even the first A class imo could not destroy and the W220 quality woes could not ruin and that is:

I think Mercedes needs someone genius like Paul Braque, or himself to recreate this level of quality design with Maybach logo. No Rolls or Bentley can match the beautiful 600 imo.

If they want Maybach to be more credible than they need to start with a complete blank sheet of paper. Not an design evolution of the 57/62.

I would hope they would have the common sense to do that. To do an evolution of the current 57/62 would be an epic FAILURE!
