DO they really fill it with people or does it always stay empty ?

It depends on the type of property. Big estate tend to be staffed as they require maintenance and guarding from burglars. Some even purpose the property as a shooting, filming or event location.

Apartments and townhouses in urban areas of London, Tokyo and Sydney are most desirable as maintenance is minimum, they are in proximity to entertainment/leisure and security isn't a concern as some apartments have 24/7 concierges.

The apartments are also good for storing expensive art and jewellery.

How about this one instead, 5 bedrooms but with 6 car parking space. The design of the house isn't as minimalist but you get a better view of the Sydney harbor.

I like wine as much as the next person, but the mega wine cellar trend I find absurd. I don't care how rich you are, but you don't need that much space because how often are you going to hangout in that space. Otherwise I like the staircase and the library sans those weird couches. Some of the details I find too cold even for my minimalist heart.

If I ever make it big, I definitely want a library/study stacked all the books I want to read, an Eames chair and ottoman, a fireplace, a minibar and mini-fridge, at least one table to place my drink, and a respectable sound system with a turn-table. No TV, no computer....this would be my fortress of solitude.

Really? Do you find yellow metal that does nothing to your well-being a better investment ? You can drink and enjoy the fermented grape juice and it even has its health benefits.

It's all just supply vs demand.

The Bevery Hills mansion is nice, but people who never lived in a mansion before, tend to not think about the maintenance required. Not just costs but also time and effort. Not to mention security. A mansion in a country where robbers are packing machine guns is not exactly the definition of safe and secure.

Today, there are so many mansions empty. New ones too, with no one buying. Castles abandoned in Europe, my Manor included.

Today for the truly wealthy, it's all about amenities and size that is managable. And location, location, location. Getting into an Aventador and drive five miles alongside an ocean road to get a carton of milk feels good for the first time but after 500 trips, not anymore.

That's why the HK penthouse costs more, but penthouses in HK or London or New York or Singapore get bought and lived in. Closer to the action. Financial centers of the world. Milk on everystreet. I do not live in a f#cking old manor anymore. And you cannot jump over rooftops in Hong Kong, you would f#cking die from the fall. I take elevators now.
