It was built a few years ago and never sold (too expensive?). They’re throwing in a car collection to “sweeten” the deal.
Operating costs and taxes must be the same as a small airport.

Too loud and too much clashing. I do like the exterior, though it's modernist architecture is now very common on newly built homes in LA and Miami.
For that kind of money, give me a 16th century French chateau in the Loire Valley with 200 acres and full staff. No neighbors within a 2 mile proximity so I can crown myself king... But truthfully, giant homes are overrated aside from those wanting to showing off.

Never understood why someone would need such big homes ? Are they thinking long term and planning to hosts their child, grandchildren and grand grand children altogether ?

Sometimes people just want expensive things, a lot of expensive things. It isn't my style either, I will be very happy with a 5 bedroom house, a 10 car garage and a nice water view...lol, that will still cost over $10 million AUD.

Or this, I will settle for the 3 parking space only. 4 bed rooms, 5 bathrooms, awesome view. This is all I ever want.

For investment purposes. Stocks and commodities can be volatile, banks can go bankrupt, fund managers can mismanage your money and jewellery can be stolen. Property has consistently been one best assets for parking and growing wealth. You can even generate income from letting
And yeah, big houses boost the ego too.

Yes, property (land more specifically) is the best solid asset an individual can have for slow and steady investments.
If someone is looking to sell, the issue is mega mansions and chateaux can take years, sometimes a decade to sell. Most often at a big discount from original list price.
For example, i live not too far from the most expensive house in NJ. Original asking was $68 million when completed in 2010. It created lots of media buzz and had an extravagant open house. 8 years later, it’s still unsold with an asking price of $38 million. All the tech running the house is now dated.
It’s hard to put into words how large the property is.

95% of the time empty. Usually they’re in use during big events.

I'll post some pics sometime. The house is supposed to feature in a home magazine towards the end of the year, not because it's spectacular or anything, but mostly due to the 'dual living concept' whereby my parents who are getting elderly live with us, however they have their own separate 'house within a house'. A large central entertainment area with raised internal gardens, that double up as dining tables when we have 40+ family members over, creates privacy for both families.
The advantages work both ways.They have me to call on when they need anything and my wife and I have free live in babysitters, plus access to a C-class and S-class.
