CLS-Class (C219) CLS Interior Revealed in new Spy Shots

The C219 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is the first generation of the CLS-Class range of four-door coupé which features a fastback body style. It is succeeded by the CLS-Class (C218). Production: December 2003 – August 2010

Well then I like it. Though I wish it were two-tone like in that pic you posted.

Looking good. Hope the round temp knobs are just on the base. The temp controls on the E look much more upscale. I am sick of the round things. They've been using those since the 2000 ML.

I would guess they're reserving the round knobs for sporty vehicles, but it looks like the ML will get 'em too .

It got the SBC interior!!!! I love it!!!! This car is going to be stunning; an incredible car inside and out.

I kinda wanted a copy and paste of the SBC's interior, but this is fine.

Love that FAT and GROOVY steering wheel ... :t-drive:

The new steering design is okay. But the one in the picture is actually made of moulded soft rubber. You can tell by the moulding seams around the diameter of the wheel and the absence of any stitching. It's probably going to be an universal steering wheel for the sports models and the more expensive models such as the SL and CLS will have a leather-trimmed one.

All of the MB models will be leather wrapped steering wheels. No way they will equip the cars with a rubber steering wheel. This is just a test wheel. It's also missing the silver/chrome trim of the middle spoke.

Beautiful! Best Merc interior yet:usa7uh:

Tough act to follow for BMW and Audi. F10 best in-class interior IMO, A7's interior reminds of F10's. CLS's interior is unique + typical 'new-retro' (if there is such a thing:D) Mercedes - quality looks 100% PREMIUM and overall looks perfect! Well done Benz!:t-cheers:

VW copied the CLS concept for the CC. Seems Mercedes with that beautiful steering wheel is paying back the favour. It looks like it was lifted straight out out of the Passat CC! But also, why can't Merc ditch that silly column mounted gear selector lever? Reminds me of a Peugeot 404 :eusa_doh:. What's wrong with the central gear lever?

I agree, the column gearshifter has no place in a sportscar. They belong to buses and delivery vans.

But I do concede that people want more storage room for bits and pieces and that helps.

With regards to the rubber steering wheel. I too hope it's a pre-production mock-up only. But I remember the cheapest C Class's did have rubber steering wheels.

It looks funny. :D A weird combination of E-Class, S-Class and C-Class interiors.

Certainly similar but more contemporary/stylish, I like it.

since what time cls became a sportscar?

The CLS is a sportish car. Much better than the E Class. I no complaints with my CLS's handling prowess. It might feel more wooden than a 5 series, but the outright grip and handling is on par with the 5 series (without having to set the airmatic to "Sport 2"). I don't need to mention it rides much better than the 5 series too.

I hope the next S-Class ushers in a new design theme for Mercedes interiors. Right now they're so predictable. I like this new CLS, but it isn't anything radical. The new SL and SLK and SLS look like they're going to share a whole lot. The 2012 S-Class had better switch it up some.

I wish the interior were a bit more concept, and less E-class 'cause that's what I'm seeing so far.

The CLS is not a sportscar but a GT. The current CLS (as you very well know) is only available with the automatic transmission unlike the E-Class and since the MCT can be combined with the column shifter + "paddles" behind the steering wheel (as in the facelifted S 63 AMG) there isn't much sense in putting the shifter in the middle console. Almost all MB models that are only available with an auto box are using the column shifter (S-Class, CL, ML, GL & R) in addition to all V6 & V8 E-Class versions excluding the E 63.

The concept's interior looks stunning because of one thing mostly : the wood center tunnel.

But the production version will have the usual plastic molding so it's nowhere near as special if you look closer for a second and third look, really.
