Classics-to-be From Mercedes-Benz

Ehhh... What? The previous generation SLK looked cheap and had a terrible quality, it didn't have the refinement of a real Mercedes. It belongs to the same group with first generation A and ML.

How do we define "looked cheap"? Now perhaps, it does. But back then, when it came out, the SLK looked fresh, exciting and was in demand. There was nearly a 1 year waiting list for this car, did you know?

Also, the quality wasn't that bad. The car was generally reliable with a few niggles here and there, but generally it was solid. The only weakspot was the interior, which was really cheap in my opinion but I guess many saw it as "appropriate for its time".

I still think this car is destined to become a classic from Benz. The NSU Ro80for example had terrible fuel economy and was a very unreliable car - yet it is cult and a classic. The R170 SLK wasn't a bad quality car overall (interior and engines were the weakspot with the exception of the SLK320 and SLK32 AMG).
