Here is the link to autocar's article. In short, is says that PSA is going to align it's brands in this way: Peugeot will be 'premium', and aimed at VW; Citroen will have C-line (affordable) and DS-line (near-premium). (Aimed at Ford).

Are they F***ING mental? Maybe its just me, but de Gaulle was driven in Citroen, not Pug, and Citroen was always bit more upmarket than Pug. This is true even today, considering Citroen now has it's DS-line. How can generic Pug be more upmarket than DS Citroen?!

Any thoughts?

My familiy has a lot of friends who have worked on Citroen. It´s always the same, always PSA surviving because of Citroen and Peugeot being the anchor. Peugeot seems to control the board.

Couldn't agree more.

This is exactly why I think the strategy above is wrong.

I also do driving instruction for Citroen and the marginalization of France's most illustrious and innovative automotive brand even with local PSA structures is apparent to me. Pity, because the DS Line has better "legs" as an alternative premium brand than Peugeot. The DS5 is a sensational car for feel-good-factor; it's packed with cool kit and just needs independent, more supple rear suspension to become a very complete product. Build quality is, would you believe it, excellent - even by German standards - engine is the superb PSA-BMW 1.6 litre turbo Prince unit and if Citroen manage to get a new generation transverse ZF auto in there then the desirability factor simply jumps another notch. DS3 is a severely underrated hot hatch with oodles of charm and zest, married to well judged suspension and a truly nice interior.

The PSA group has a problem; Peugeot and Citroen are each others biggest and most direct rivals. It's clear that this realisation has resulted in such a strategy. Of course, Citroen's redemption lies in the fact that it has a much better image and following in China than Peugeot does. It's thus important that cars like DS9 and Wild Rubis make the transition from concept to production as quickly, feasibly and completely as possible.

The award for the biggest ergonomic cock-up goes to the Peugeot 208 for its HV* HUD instrument binnacle.

This French article (translated by google) seems much more accurate than the autocar article :

"The philosophy is to work on a car easier with a modern and attractive design to break the trend of growing to meet the needs of customers who do not necessarily want all the amenities. " this sentence should Frederic Banzet, Citroën boss in an interview with the weekly Le Point. The manufacturer announced the launch of a new range of essential cars cheaper to be intended primarily to markets in the European Union.

But make no mistake, essential car does not mean car discount or low cost car but simpler, less expensive to maintain, no electronics makes some dashboards resemble cockpits stuffed plane! Moreover, the chevrons brand does not necessarily announced so low Dacia cars of this new range Essential prices but we know that this upcoming lineup will be positioned below the current line C that could ultimately pay the price repositioning Citroën and its cars. In doing so, the manufacturer operates a return to the past in its line of products since should have a range of "C" access to the brand and the premium DS line or upscale. With this repositioning officially announced, Citroen will in the future a little from the general spirit that prevails today.

The Citroënistes see in this evolution of the range, a real back to basics with a pattern reminiscent of the famous duos born before the era Peugeot. We all remember the 2 CV / Traction, 2CV and Dyane / DS not to mention the time Visa / CX is the last link in the Citroën duo.

The first model in this new range will hit the market in 2014 (hopefully a presentation in the second half of this year!) And should be based (in the spirit) of the C-Cactus born six years ago ...

With this new range repositioned, the manufacturer seems to be trying to avoid trade clash with Peugeot since should have the following situations:

Peugeot: Low cost (line 01) + general range
Citroën: Essential + Prenium (DS)

The idea is to allow the French group and cover more market segments without the group's brands not walk on "feet" commercially speaking. Once this range is going to be launched car key, the DS range will change with the arrival of a large sedan, a compact sedan trunk (adapted to the way DS4 C4-L?) And a luxury SUV that will have the tough task of rubbing the tenors of the segment. We note that, pending the update of the nomenclature Citroen C Series continues with full C3 and C4 Picasso MPV, the ludospaces Nemo, Berlingo and models C1, C3, C4, C5.

A good economic and industrial site for the brand to the rafters that could rebound in the market with the arrival on the market of which is essential for a large number of motorists, namely a reliable easy to drive quite simple, live, practice and hopefully physically friendly. To follow in the coming months.
