Chrysler to Build Minivans for VW in St. Louis

The AIADA newsletter reported that Bloomberg said that Chrysler will build minivans for Volkswagen AG at its South plant in St. Louis. The VW minivans would be sold in the U.S. and exported abroad, though it is not known when production would start. A spokesman for Chrysler would not comment on the report. DaimlerChrysler has a South and North plant in St. Louis that face each other across a highway. The South plant built 201,000 minivans in 2004.

Thats good for VW, Chrysler/Dodge minivans are some of the most popular mv's out there! With new changes and innovation all the time! Ex.Stow&Go.

That is an interesting story. I really hope that they just share the same platform and nothing else... Heaven forbid they just take a Dodge Caravan and slap a VW logo on the grill. Same goes for the interior.

I dont think VW just threw in the towel. I think they are looking to make better marketing moves.

That's interesting. Umm, I haven't read the article, but are they building all new minivans, rebadged Dodge minivans, or contract building of unspecified VW designed minivans?

I guess VW has seen a market for it, and also sees some benefit in making use of a commercial opportunity. Good for them, hope the result doesn't hurt their brand.

Didn't read this specific article, but saw this a while ago. They are using the D/C platform, and building an all new van. Chrysler is giving them a lot of resource-type-stuff, but are making Stow-n-Go a D/C exclusive, if I recall, so don't bet on it being in a VW.
