This bizarre creation is the Heuillez Macarena, effectively a folding hardtop cabrio version of Peugeot’s 407.

The French coachbuilding and engineering firm, which designed Peugeot’s 206CC road model, has developed the folding hardtop for larger saloons and built the Macarena as a demonstration model. It is scheduled to be officially released at the Geneva motor show in March.

Apart from the novel roof mechanism – which folds away in around half a minute – the show car features LCD screens for the rear passengers and what amounts to a crossmember between the two B-pillars. The latter is presumably fitted to aid rigidity.

Heuillez claims that it is in discussions with several manufacturers about using the system in production models.

Peugeot

Peugeot is a French brand of automobiles owned by Stellantis. Founded in 1810, Peugeot is regarded as the oldest car company in the world. On 20 November 1858, Émile Peugeot applied for the lion trademark. Armand Peugeot (1849-1915) built the company's first car steam tricycle. They joined forces with Léon Serpollet in 1886; this was followed in 1890 by an internal combustion car with a Panhard-Daimler engine.
