Change to LPG fuel consumption

I would like your opinion because I am thinking to modify the type of fuel that my car is using.
I am planing to change the BMW X3 2,0i from Unleaded to LPG.
The last 1 year in my country a lot of people are adding some special kits that modify the fuel consumption.
I am thinking to do the same since right now I am spending more than 500 euro per month only for fuel (The price of LPG is more than 50% lower than Unleaded)

How safe is LPG??
Is it reliable??
Many people insist that LPG causes many damages to the cars engine.
Anyone from the forum that made the same change??

Thank you.

I recently had a short drive with a previous generation Opel Astra fitted with an LPG system. I was pleasantly surprised with the refinement and with the fact that I didn't notice the switch-over. But the rumor has it that the price of LPG will soon reach gas-prices levels, so is it worth the try?

It's a shame that here in Greece, owning a 2.0l car is concidered a crime...

I know that there is no problem whith the switch over etc.
I am asking about the problems that will probably occur at the engine after 1 or 2 years of use with LPG since the engine is build to work with other kind of fuel.

Regarding the price level as far as I know with the new regulatons that Greek government will implement the price increase is very small and will be around 0,80-1,00 euro/liter compared to Unleaded which now is 1,70-2,00 euros/liter.
I own a car with consumption arround 12 liter/100 km and I personally need more than 20 euro almost per day which is not affordable any more.

Many things are bad in Greece, the worst is that citizens have nothing to do with all these global financial games and elctronically created crysis and debts.

p.s. I would like to read more opinions regarding changing fuel consumption from people outside Greece.

Does your X3 have Direct Injection or not?

If it has, the lubrication of the valves will be an issue, but I am hearing that there is a work-around for that. If it has MPI, then you won't have any problems with the valves.

The injectors will be different for gasoline and LPG, so I can't think of any other problem that could happen. The only thing you will have to be very carefull of, though, is when washing your engine bay!

:t-cheers:

The idea of a normally aspirated 150bhp? 2l engine in an suv doesn't make sense to me let alone to lpg it?
Why not go diesel x3 which offers plenty more performance and double the mpg?

Diesel is also expensive it is arround 1,50 euro /liter!

Also diesel is not permited for use in Athens for a personal vehicle, although it is permited for all other use (busses, trucks, taxis etc)
It is a totaly silly law that still exists although from time to time there are rumors that will change, like now.
