Comparison tests CAR ZA: Super Saloons Performance Shootout 2014

AWD has more of an advantage on a tight and twisty track cause you have more grip to launch from the slower corners. The test driver even comments on the video that the track suits AWD cars (@2:30).

I vaguely recall that this track even exists. I have never driven it. I can't comment with any experience but it looks to me like grip and traction - as opposed to handling balance - are the lap time deciders in the technical sections where there is parity in weight.

Naturally, the lighter the car with a surfeit of grip and traction the better the outcome here. Hence the 12C does very well as was to be expected.

I must have missed that comment, thanks for the info. (y)

My only experience of diving quattro hard on a tight track was at Audi's event at Silverstone and I found on the tight stuff you need to be slow in quick out much like a 911 otherwise understeer was the most prominent feature but as these were the only cars to test there I can't comment if a good rwd would have fared any better.

Shiet, that RS7 is a missile!
Man oh man, do I love this car. It's taking over "my favorite Audi at the moment" position more and more. It's gonna be a super dream car for any man.

And I think the biggest win for it in this test, was to win the track. Wow!

It's too bad they didn't have the 4matic version of the E63, cause it would be the only car that could match the RS7. Having said that, I'm really surprised by the "only" 4.66 seconds to 100km/h for the RWD version. What is the factory time for it?

Btw, where is this test from? They speak so funny ☺

Good work Audi. You're going the right way.

Oh and one last thing, that M6 GC is soooo sexy!

I really really really would like to see a drag race between the RS7 and the R8 V10 plus. That would be awesome.

Audi must be on a roll because with nearly every new sporty model Audi brings out it's your all time favorite. o_O

There is a clue in the thread title, ZA, or as the funny speaking locals call it, Seuth Efreka!

Beautiful part of the world, I am on holiday in South Africa right now, it's summer here.

you know that 6er gc was only 0.2s slower on the track?
Sure, and that is actually amazing that the RS7 still was faster, since it's the "ultimate driving machine" and normally BMWs are faster on track. So, different times now. Kudos to Audi, for not being only fast in straight line anymore.

Please do quote me, and find my posts, where I said that any other time, then about RS6 Avant, RS7 and the R8 V10 Plus. Please, mr Funny.

Mate don't take it so personal I too think Audi is on a roll with the latest offerings but you have to admit you do say it almost every time that it's your favorite.

Like said here in this thread and also in the video test. This track suit AWD the best. Its not always black and white.

One thing I have noticed about quattro or maybe it's the same for most AWD cars is that they are easier to drive quickly, whether that's because they have a more forgiving nature or build confidence in the driver to be pushed harder I can't say for sure.

six hundred hp relatively soft two ton barges on a tight twisty track that favors awd, and awd one wins (with practically insignificant gap), and all of a sudden 'different times' now lol

yeah I know what you mean, its almost as if they sort of have (and this is a long shot I know) .... more grip?

There is always a reason for you when Audi wins hey? Next time when BMW wins a test, I'll blame it on the reason that the track suits a RWD car then.

Defenitely not "easy". I would say "maybe".

I agree with Benek the R8 would win with relative ease and as the speeds increased into triple figures it will drift away easily. But that doesn't lessen the fact that the RS7 is one seriously quick car just that supercar performance has once again moved beyond that level.

I'm no racing expert, neither are you but when the driver in this test explain the reasons behind the laptime + guys like Martinbo and Sunny , you decide to close your eyes and not listen. You do whatever you want but at least I'm not making any excuses in this case, just telling the truth.

Sometimes this board feels like I'm talking to kids in a kindergarten. The replies you get is just childish behaviour sometimes. Sigh!.
