I only have the laptimes for now.

1° Porsche 911 Gt3 Rs 53.81sec
2° Caterham 7 R400 54.28sec
3° Lamborghini Superleggera 54.45 sec
4° Audi R8 55.56sec
5° Bmw M3 56.71sec
6° Impreza RB320 57.90sec
7° Nissan 350 Z 59.04sec
8° Audi S5 59.43sec
9° Opel VXR8 59.54sec
10° Honda Civic Type R 60.85sec
11° Clio 197 F1 R27 61.12sec
12° Mini cooper S Works 61.53sec
13 Opel Corsa VXR 61.92sec

Damn, GT3 RS faster than a Caterham 7 .

Again, not much between R8 and M3 as far track times go, while S5 is disappointing.

SL one second off R8? sorry, either the track was REALLY tight (and sub one minutes times suggest so) or they dont know how to drive. the G SL is not slower than a GT3/RS. even the german bias mags have tested the G SL to be 1.5-2.5 seconds faster/lap.

"It's not got enough power, poser car... yadda, yadda, whine, whine...." truth is the R8 must be one of the most overachieving and surprising cars this year.

Exactly. I also hope that it will work with the V10 BiTurbo, as well as this V8. Then, it will leave almost everything behind it.

Btw, I just heard on Jay Leno show that the famous British chef Gordon Brown bought an R8, and then Jay Leno said "yes it's an amazing car" :)

R8 only one second behind the Superleggera! Good work Audi! Did not see that comming.

R8 is an impressive car, but in this particular test, it is more of a case of the SL sucking. SL has no justification being off the GT3RS time.

I was wondering where the hell is that SL65 AMG you are all talking about... :P But now I get your "SL" cut :):D

Cadwell Park is one of the UK's finest and most daunting circuits. It is particularly scenic and is a technical circuit that tests both man and machine to the max. EVO used this circuit for this year's Road and Track Car of the Year (issue 105 - June) but I believe that they used the full circuit to test the cars whereas Car has used only the Club Section of the track, hence the 40 odd second difference in times. In fairness to Car, given a possibly tight schedule and many cars to test, using the Club circuit was probably a good choice.

At Bedford, the SL is a good deal faster than a GT3 RS but at Cadwell Park, the multi-faceted GT3 RS seems to shine. It did just that at EVO's event finishing behind only the R400. That it manages to pip the R400 at Car's test is a further indication that the Woodland section of the circuit (which is tighter and more suited to the R400) wasn't used. The GT3 RS was the winner in the EVO test. As for the driver, yeah, as a twice British Touring Car champion he's rubbish and hasn't got a clue on how to drive... (please man!)

Spectacular vid, and some truly great driving.

so, any stated reasons why the G SL isnt performing the way it should be in the article?

the GSL shouldnt be losing to a GT3RS under any circumstances.

Why not?

All tracks are different, same car doesnt behave the same on every track. Some track suit one car better than the other.
Take race cars for example. The car isnt the same all season long. There is a lot of testing, tweaking, chassi settings, tire tests and so on for every competition.
Carmags arent doing such things, they test the car the way its delievered.
This track suited the GT3 better than the SL , simple as that.

I can see how a tight track could nullify the Gallardo Sl's power advantage over GT3 RS, but then the AWD and the extra torque should have helped the Gallardo SL in a tight race track, but it didn't, so I doubt, that is the case here. May be the track had a corner or a combination that was not suited to Gallardo SL's suspension/chassis setup. After all Porsche has been doing these light weight track specials for way longer than Lamborghini, I wouldn't be surprised if the GT3 RS just has the better chassis/suspension.
