Its not like they suddenly found a secret formula how to build a fast car. Their approach in the past were more focused towards comfort than sport. They could build cars like these in the past if they wanted too but like I said back then it was mostly a comfort priority. Now AMG's have become sportier but lost some of its comfort advantage they had in the past. But this is because of the new goal they are aiming for, than the newly found secret recipe.

The gap is closing fast. I suspect the next generation (along with the E63) will be a top-notch performers, right up there with the M5.

You wont see it now when BMW have 4-door Coupe just like CLS. M vs a Black series, not exactly the same opponent either. Its like putting M3 next to C63 Blackseries when in fact there is a M3 GTS.

Interesting that both cars went into limp mode - the M5 sooner than the CLS63 it appears - that's the highveld for you. I prefer the M5's tone to the CLS63's I must say - the latter sounding decidedly flatulent compared to the former's more melodious tone. Not that either can compare to their S85 and M156 engined forebears, of course.

I must say that I'd much rather a shootout between the M5 and the new TT E63 AMG for the sake of parity.

Haha yes like you said i do not track my car..so ile take the better looking, the more exclusive..and better sounding car please.. ( all in my opinion)
The track time could have been 40seconds slower..i would still pick the CLS

For heaven's sake i never understood why they always put the CLS63 against the M5 instead of the E63..they also did that for the last gen of cars too.

E63 TT vs M5 please..and use LC on both cars in drag races please.

The M5 looks more agile than the CLS and like martinbo I'd like to see if the E63 is closer in the agility stakes.

Another thing to note is the M5 comes with Michelin SuperSports.

Many new sportscars does that today, like Ferrari and Porsches. Its the latest performance tyre and its street legal. I understand what you are trying to do here but you cant blame the laptime on the tyre alone. The tyre wouldnt be anything without the M5 power, new LSD and suspension tweaking. Its not like I add Michelin Supersport on my car and it automaticly becomes faster than a M5. And its not like the Benz is using a crappy performance tyre either. What speaks for CLS63 is less weight and lower center of gravity. Both obviously have their strengths and weakness.

For me CLS. And I think the Cls is better looking than the E by 10 times. I`m joking, it looks better but not by a distance. E is a 9 note design, CLS deserves 10, it`s very very very...very beautiful car.

That man needs to see a barber, all that hair is adding way too much weight to the track times.

The CLS63's thunderous exhaust note absolutely dwarfs the M5.
