Vs Car & Driver: M5 vs. CLS55 vs. STSV

I got mine a few days ago. The basically knocked the CLS55 behind the Caddy because the CLS had a worse back seat, poor rear sight lines and a higher price. Pretty much what previous posts have stated, you aren't missing much really. The only thing the CLS should have been knocked for which they noted was "reluctant transient repsonses" around the track - that I can see costing point, but the other stuff is bs imo. Motor Trend got it right.

Afterall its a comparison and they are just stating that CLS has worse backseat, poor rearsight and higher price than STS but it doesnt mean its bad, only worse compared to STS. Or Im I totally wrong?
If it was E55 I believe it would take second place.

Dont forget its their opinion, some people agree with them some dont. I hear a lot of complaints on the M5/M6 but its just peoples opinions and I dont care. I've driven the M6 and got a ride in two M5's and I know it would suit me as my daily car. No matter what others say, the car is fast, comfortable and easy to drive. Its great car and suit my personality and needs. Im certain the CLS55 would work for you.

Re: Comparison Test from Car & Driver

If I am not mistaken, I think a page is missing.... From the CLS to the STS there is a page missing I think....

Thanks for scan though!

Re: Comparison Test from Car & Driver

Last page lists results...

1st- M5
2nd- Cadillac
3rd- CLS55

Re: Car&Driver: M5 vs CLS 55 vs STS-V

Funny, the CLS is by no means as practical as the E-Class, but I've driven three CLS's and I did not have any problems with the REAR SIGHT. BS if you ask me.

Rear seat space might be restrictive for especially tall people, but for the average person, the CLS offers decent space at the back. I had no problems fitting in, even with the front seats set back quite a bit. The only problem I had was that my head always touched the downward sloping materials of the inner roof.

Re: Comparison Test from Car & Driver

Thanks a lot :usa7uh:

Maximum score for M5 in following categories:

20/20 performance
5/5 steering feel
5/5 brake feel
10/10 handling
25/25 fun to drive

I'm not surprised at all cause its what M are about.

8/10 ride (but I dont expect more from a sporty car, my personal experience the seats are very comfortable and work very well for daily-use.)

--------------------------------------------------------

I dont know much about Cadillac but apprantly best comfort of all three, also a cheap car. But 16 sec slower than M5 to 150mph is a huge difference.

When is there a replacement for this Cadillac?

Re: Car&Driver: M5 vs CLS 55 vs STS-V

perhaps locking this thread now when we have the scans in the other thread?

Looking at this article I still say the performance numbers are about a 0.5th`s of a difference between the CLS55 and M5 which is not much to argue over.

MB should be credited for producing it`s best performance car yet.
The 63 models should be even better than the 55 in driving dynamics overall.

I`m still sticking with my opinion with this post. This is my overall opinion
of the CLS55 vs. M5 from most of the magaine articles I`ve read.

I think that the new SMG is the reason for that gap between the two :)

Merge them Alex, better idea.

WOW! The M5 really destroys at higher speeds. Its amazing how quick it is past 100 mph. It smoked the CLS to 150 and basically made a fool out of the STS-V. I dont think the CLS was justly dealt with.

P.S. (am I still responsible for scanning it because I havent seen it at the grocery store yet. I guess I can go in tomorro and see if they have it yet.)

Yeah I was looking at those upper speeds also. The Motor Trend article also point out that the CLS55 is much faster at acceleration and braking from higher speeds than the CLS.

The M5 gains about 4 seconds on the CLS55 to 150 mph, impressive. The CLS63 will again be faster though I'm betting.

yeah I expect the CLS63 to be similar to M5 to say 100-120mph but just like the M5, CLS63 will be faster than M5 at higher speeds. But acceleration isnt everything so I hope CLS63 will handle like a M5 and being more involving to drive as well.
