Car and Driver - First Drive: 2008 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG

Fastest? Drove my car 250 km/h (damn limiter:D), was sitting in the backseat with my ex gf while her brother drove the old 750Li (E32) 275 km/h...:t-drive:

:t-cheers:

Mercedes needs to drop either the CL63 or the CL600, it makes no sense that they offer 3 models north of $120,000!:eusa_thin

The fastest growing market, at least percentagewise, is the $110,000 to $170,000 price range. Just look at all of the entries that virtually didn't exist in their current state a few years ago - Bentley Flying Spur, GT, GTC, Maserati Quatt, Aston Vantage, DB9 to name a few. Even the base S-Class remains unsold on many dealer lots while $110,000.00 versions are virtually impossible to find. There is substantial disposable income in the hands of the "baby boomers" that is screaming to be spent.

I agree with more sales in that price range but you still have to remember that the quantity of larger cars are still small, bentley only make 10,000 cars in a whole year for all the world and the S600 and the astons are made in small quantities as well.

several actually, Z06, 996 gt2, 997TT and only 260km/h in a M5 V10

That's just wicked Just_me, you lucky guy. :D My dad haven't got the chanced to push the car to those speeds yet... The only highway we know that is possible for that is the Malaysian highway, but it's dangerous sometimes. :eusa_doh: Oh I know, Sepang!

Well back to the discussion, I think there is space for the CL600, CL63 and CL65 in the market. The 'sensible' upgraders from the CL500 will buy the CL600, but no way would they be thinking of the CL65. The CL65 is in a all different class altogether - it's for the super-rich, money no object class who don't give a damn whether their car is just a notch quicker than the CL600 or not. They just want the excessive superlative.

The CL63 on the other hand is the choice sporty CL, which isn't satisfied in either the CL600 or the CL65.
