X3/X4 BMW X4 test mule?

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3.

Is this prototype next gen X3, or is it X4?

With the highly controversial BMW X6 Coupe in the middle of its development, BMW shows no fear with the development of yet another raised 4x4 model called X4. Although no information about its design has been leaked, the X4 is expected to resemble the X6. It seems BMW is confident the X6 Crossover Coupe will be a success, and as a result, have gone ahead with the expansion of the X-model range once again.

Weirdly funny, BMW should fire it's designer right away, I'm disappointed :eusa_doh:...!

The last rendition is hilarious. looks like someone with a strange imagination streched an otherwise perfectly normal car..

I reckon this test mule looks pretty dam hot with the flare wheelarches. Give it a different front bumper and the car is good to go, Subaru Legacy Outback style

Guys...this isn't what it looks like. This looks like a raised 3er Station...like the Audi A6 Allroad or the Alfa Romeo Crosswagon.

BMW are not going to open their cards and show the world what they are working on. This is purely a mule that BMW is working on...who knows what they are planning.

One thing is certain...noone is resting at BMW...even over summer...

Thanks for the heads-up Eni,.. one question though.. how come BMW are already working on an X3 replacement? Aren't there other cars in the BMW line-up which are older than the X3.. like the Z4 and the 6er?

This question of mine is further emphasised by the fact that in other thread showing BMW Q3 sales, the Z4 and 6er range showed a slow-down while the X3 was in positive sales-growth territory.

Z4 is already out in a full prototype form - see spy pic threads in Z4 section. ;)

But BMW still use 3er touring as a F25 X3 mule - so still very early development phases.

Z4 is to come in 2009, so is the F5 PAS.
New 5er is scheduled for 2010. New X3, 6er & 1er for 2011.

Mind that some test for upcoming 5er can be done with F5 PAS (same platform). New 5er ... what if "M5 turbo prototypes" are not really an M5 turbo prototypes. ;) And new 5er will be based on 5er platform - just like current is based on E60. So in some way some components of upcoming 5er & 6er are already being tested - via F5 PAS.

X3 also started being tested as 3er Touring mules ... And sometimes next year 1er mules will begin their tests.

And X1 is still in FABEAN phase - testing suspension loads, chassis still in late development phases. Other phases will start to follow slowly.

Etc ...

Regarding sales ... 6er is down due facelift (launched in September) ... Z4 numbers are quite OK for such an old model (-1,2% only). 5er sales are down due very poor sales in the first months 2007, waiting for a facelift. Now the numbers are picking up. Also the 3er sedan & touring - new EffecientDynamics features & engine upgrades being introduced in September - therefore a slow Q2 sales. 1er sales also picking up after facelift & 3dr model introduction.

All sales trends are positive - with an exception of 7er: sales still declining. But the car is in the last year of production (new 7er coming in September 2008).

:t-cheers:

How accurate is the below illustrations by AB ?

X4 still hasn't got a green light for production ... Neither the final design is chosen ... Still considering it, working on general design ideas ...

So, those pics above are based on Huckfeldt's imagination only ...
