Official Thread BMW Vision Neue Klasse

Another winner for BMW. Turned out to be even better than I thought.
I second that. Proportions are tight and sedan like. Like a small 1980s sedan not a stretched potato or crossover like other EV “sedans”. I see E36 proportions in it.

I like it a lot, with just a small caveat: I find the bonnet at its summit, rises too much (too tall) compared to the grill. I felt something similar with the F30....

Great job! It moves a lot from the concept, but it’s understandable, they couldn’t go too drastic.

What has been already said here, the only flaw is the illuminated front, I wish it was more blacked out with the focus on the headlamp graphics.

Where the light and shadows would make it blend naturally, the illuminated borders give a feeling of misalignment which is an illusion seeing it from certain angles.

The rear is my favorite part, really nice and retro. It gives some 90’s/80’s Fiat/Alfa vibes.

Looks quite good. I have doubts about the rear from certain angles.

And the interior I believe it is the opposite of the B8 A4, it is probably well made, but does not look like it.

Its ok, sporty focus, good proportions front and middle. For my taste a5 is looking great, but this , because the c class wanted with amg package to look more sporty than elegant…i think the 3 series will look better than the c class overall. The interiors are all now looking techy inside, audi motto “going forward through technology “
hopefully we will get ice/hibrid as well and not just i3

BMW took one of its most iconic design details — the Hofmeister kink — and slapped on a giant piece of cheap black plastic. The kind of thing you expect on a base Toyota Corolla or some entry-level Kia. They truly never learn.

It’s such obvious cost cutting & it’s insulting. BMW thinks no one will notice — but people do. This kind of 'gimmicky' cost cutting is exactly why BMW has lost control of the narrative.

This is a fundamental design decision, and a company like BMW should know better than to fumble something this basic. This isn’t some complex engineering problem, it's simply arrogance & stupidity to make a few extra pennies while giving the middle finger to your customer.

The exterior is a winner! I love how BMW created a completely new face, but still managed to maintain its identity. Evolving your design language like this is not easy.

I'm not sure about the interior, specifically the steering wheel. Why can't a wheel just be a wheel huh? Seems like a worse Xiaomi YU7 interior.

I get that it’s the dedicated electric iteration of the 3 Series but I can’t say I’m all that impressed with how the exterior styling turned out.
I’m curious to know what the wheel sizes are for the cars in the pics because they look huge. A design approach needed to offset the bloated sheetmetal in the pursuit of wheel-to-surface ratio? The C-pillar isn’t great either. That black plastic filler clearly implemented to reduce the visual mass of the C-pillar stemming from the rear door shutline.

I guess it’s more difficult to unpack the proportions born out of necessity with electric cars but I’m glad we still have the G50 with its traditional formula to look forward to. In the case of the iX3 and its X3 counterpart, the former is arguably the more attractive design (I still think the X3’s proportions are superior) but with NA0 vs G50, I’m sure the opposite will be true.

I think the styling language is nice. I like the front headlight->integrated kidney treatment.

The proportions are a little weird, obv bloated and middle-heavy looking. HOWEVER, I'm glad they didn't try to artificially disguise it with a black side skirt and left it body colour. On topic of the Hofmeister kink, I do prefer the flat plastic they chose over the weird 3d kink on the G20 and nomenclature on the G60.

If anything seeing this got me more excited for the G50. The G50 with this design language on the more muscular cab-rearward proportions is going to be perfect.
