Official Thread BMW Vision Neue Klasse

I think it will be overshadowed by the iX3. In terms of design, it will look like an acorn.

Why, BMW, why? You had one job. The i3 looks tiny. Really, I don't think this is what customers want and I really don't eat the part regarding the so-called traditional proportions of a mid-sized BMW sedan. Downsizing is not the way to go in this segment. This NA0 looks very, very compact, to begin with, and for the worst.

I am expecting the G50 to be superiorly proportionate, though no miracles can happen with that rather cramped cabin.

4760mm overall length according to Thomas of Autogefühl. Somewhat longer than the G20 3er sedan.

Somewhat longer, but what about that cabin? With the respect to rear door opening and general spatial feeling, my F30 looks like a 5 Series/7 Series compared to this.

And all that plain metal in sheer eyesight - it looks rather unpremium and ghastly.

TBH, I am not looking forward to this NA0. Expecting to be disapproved by the real car, but I don't think it will be the case.

Then they should get an i5 lol. But really I don’t think they downsized, from what I’ve read it’s the similar overall length to G20 with longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs.

Let's not freak out.
Is Thomas doing the sit-behind-self test? I haven't watched the video.

Yes.

He has knee-room, and sufficient head room, but he comments that his feet are effectively wedged under the seat in front, there isn't enough clearance between floor and seat base to squeeze his clodhoppers into.

The change to the grille is quite a shock; I love the element of surprise. Perhaps they'll keep the concept version for the M3 grille to differentiate themselves, as they have done with the last few generations.

Thanks.

I'm a bit shorter than him at 1.85m - long in the leg. When I sit behind myself in my G20, it's also tight. I drive in a much more upright seatback position than most and with my seat base at its lowest [this is the way]. And whilst my feet still fit under the seat base, my knees are just touching the seatback.

In the case of the i3, the lack of underseat foot space is a common issue in EVs but for the rest of it, space appears adequate for the class - particularly considering the bulky jacket he's wearing.

The lack of space in the rear seat is not really a surprise as its only 5cm longer than the G20 and the battery probably also eats into some space under the front seat and the rear headroom. The thing that bothers me if sitting in the back is the angle of the legs to sit lower into the seat as the floor is high, but this is a common problem with most EV saloons.

Looks like this i3 will be a great drivers car

Thomas's words at the end of his video are encouraging, describing it as extremely fun to drive, with different and even better attributes than the G20 ICE, and as the most technologically advanced sedan currently available.
