So, only Alpina will be beautiful cars from BMW without NK shit.

I hope it will be a petrol engine rather than an EV concept.
The Skytop proves that BMW can make some stunning cars.
I wouldn’t say no to an Alpina version!

Are they gonna use a different design language for these Alpina models from now on?

Remember folks, BMW Vision cars either do not get made, or get made after a watered down Concept becomes a more watered down production vehicle.

Well, that picture appears to have front lights, grille and rear lights not that different from G70 7er FL.
Yeah they appear to be similar. Has that “double line” LED’s, or whatever it’s called. Perhaps it’s gonna be somewhat influenced from the Neue Klasse design language.
Also, where’s the grille exactly? Is that huge thing the grille itself?

Good for bmw. There are plenty of spare 8-series chassis that can be put to good use by reskinning.

I could see this happening, the 8-er kind of fizzled out itself without a proper halo model (M8 didn't even get a CS), though Skytop and Speedtop could be considered a swan-song - but honestly, I think what this Vision will show, are a few signature elements that can be applied to non sheet-metal elements of the 7-er and X7 - we'll see different bumpers and lighting signatures on those models, that the Vision ALPINA will show, rather than this being a foreshadowing of a revived 8-er.

Maybe I'm being cynical.

I hope they don’t put the old 8er interior. That would look so out of place imo. I don’t expect them to go full on bespoke with the interior styling but still, some new elements would be nice. We’ll see in a few days.

Wow. Great looking silhouette.

And that is, for me at least, the primary point of interest-this being a "Vision concept vehicle". Sundries, nuances will be subject to perhaps significant change (or perhaps deletion) should this concept actually spawn a series production version.

The M8 and M6 have never fulfilled their role as halo models. M3/M4 and M5 are not the most expensive cars in the lineup but are the ones that are more aspirational to own. This especially true for the M3/M4 as underscored by the sheer width and depth of aftermarket support.

M8/M6 demand has historically been so poor after the first year. 20-30% discounts with 0% finance on factory orders is common to incentives sales. You would not see that type of offer for a G-Class.

Good mention about reskinning the 7 series. That’s a possibility too and if customers are willing to pay then it’s worth it. For coach building they can shorten the 7 series length if needed. Not s problem.

Clearly there is a huge demand for one-off or limited reskinned cars. BMW, Bentley, Gordon Murray automotive, RR and Ferrari appear to have no issues selling them.

Financially it’s also better if 20 customers pre-commit to spending €500k versus you planning to churn out 83 cars for €120k but ending up with many sitting discounted on dealer lots.

We’ll see in a few days.

Again, what we'll see in a few days, is a Vision model.

Vision Efficient Dynamics
Vision Connected Drive
Vision Future Luxury
Vision NEXT100
Vision Dynamics
Vision iNEXT
Vision M NEXT
Vision Circular
Vision Dee
Vision Neue Klasse
Vision Neue Klasse X
Vision Driving Experience

How many of those showed what customers could buy inside and out?

The difference between a '6' and '8' model for me is that a '6' isn't supposed to be a Halo model (it's a coupe version of a 5, like the 4 is to the 3), where as an '8' should be... Z8, i8 etc. (edit: E24 M635CSi was second fiddle to the M1, not an '8' model by name, but perhaps in principle. Original E31 M8 would have been a unicorn, even in it's own time).

Aftermarket support is defined by the number of cars on the road multiplied by the wallet size of those of those owners, if there's more owners, there's more incentive to offer aftermarket stuff, if they're wealthy the aftermarket options can be more outlandish... to me this isn't anything to do with halo-status.

Again, just my two cents but Brabus Bodo and more relevantly the Bovensiepen Zagato show that with the impending doom of the EV era, bespoke models are the way to show what you can do.

You would not see that type of offer for a G-Class.

G-Class is Jim Jones for Mercedes fans, it's not a realistic benchmark for anything.

Yes. 8 should be a halo car. The issues for the M8 were a couple. Same performance as the M5 but for more money and, subjectively the design isn't an improvement on the F82 or G82. Actually from a distance, if you are not a car nerd the front cold be mistaken for an F series 4 series.

The Z8 and i8 were fab because they were distinctively different.

There are alot of cars that have sold in way higher volumes than the M4/M3 but don't have the same width of depth of after market parts. It's not a definitive criteria for a halo car.

However if customers are willing to spend 10-20% of the car value and void warranty, there is clearly strong emotional attachment to the car. But eventually people want to progress to higher level cars that are more exclusive.

This is where I think Alpina has a amazing promise to fulfill what the 8-Series hadn't and what the 7 can't because demand for German luxury barges isn't what it was 20 years ago.

From the shadows of the Alps, a new vision emerges.
The Vision BMW ALPINA premieres on May 15.
