BMW V-series / F-series (V5/F5 & V3/F3)

Re: BMW V-series (V5 & V3)

Auto Zeitung has some chops on the V5/F5 (personally i prefer the F5 name)

F5 name is already registred by VOLVO. :t-hands:

Also: V-series is still NOT registered by BMW AG.

But, BMW AG have already registered R, K, F, & G designations - for their motorcycles.

R5 is registered by AUDI AG.

V5 is still the most possible name to be chosen. "V" for "versatility".

Or K5? "K" for "der Kreuzer" = "cruiser" :t-hands: The car is internally named as "Luxury Sports Cruiser".

I hope they don't use "V" because the first thing that comes to mind is "van" and mercedes V class.

No matter what BMW says the "V" stands for, the average consumer will believe it stands for van.

When people will see the car, its design & shape, they will realize it has nothing to do with a van. And that letter "V" and "van" are not connected.

Eg. Mercedes R-class. Doesn't "R" letter reminds you of ie. "roadster"? Or "C" of "coupe" etc.

But when you see the R-class vehicle you realize R has nothing to do with roadster. Or C with coupe. Etc.

Just wait to see the car ... :usa7uh:

Re: BMW V-series (V5 & V3)

I was told BMW AG had recently filled applications for F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9 name registration in EU & USA!

:t-cheers:

I'm eager to see what will happen, since in some countries "F5" name is registered by Volvo. Also Ford's "F-series" can be an obstacle. :t-hands:

BMW expands Sportvan project: Now there's a 3 Series version planned, too

Sportvans are the next big thing at BMW. In 2005, the Bavarian automaker confirmed it would build a sportvan/MPV/wagon based on the X5 (itself based on the 5 Series). The vehicle was developed under the working title RFK, but we believe it'll be called F5. Now comes word that BMW is planning a similar vehicle based off its 3 Series-called F3-though the company's board hasn't given it the green light, yet. BMW is expected to launch the F5 in mid-2009 and, if approved, the F3 the following year.

Both would be five-door, five-passenger vehicles with rear or all-wheel drive offered. They're designed to be sporty and yet capacious, with ride and handling to BMW sedan standards. They'll eschew larger wheels and tires that add unsprung weight as well as high centers of gravity that diminish ride and handling quality.

Engines in the F3 would likely match standard, non-M3 engines from the 3 Series; the 235-horsepower, 3.0-liter six and the 300-horsepower twin-turbo 3.0. A diesel option for the States, given BMW's plans to sell them here also is a good bet.

Re: F5 RFK will have a younger sigling - Code F3 Sportsvan

That looks ugly and cool at the same time...i'm compfused.

Re: F5 RFK will have a younger sigling - Code F3 Sportsvan

I love everything about the front end but I dispise the whole idea of a bimmer MPV.

Re: F5 RFK will have a younger sigling - Code F3 Sportsvan

dido^

Thats a very good chop...If it looked anything like that-it could be cool but i dont like the idea of BMW van..

Re: F5 RFK will have a younger sigling - Code F3 Sportsvan

What’s next a BMW truck :t-crazy2: IMO there’s no room for such car in BMW, for me X3 is the limit (although I like it) even the series 1 is too much

Re: F5 RFK will have a younger sigling - Code F3 Sportsvan

I like where they are going with the head light!

Re: F5 RFK will have a younger sigling - Code F3 Sportsvan

I guess this is the V3 I read about before. Scott/Eni can tell more.

That's what they said about the X5 too.

"F" models won't be MPVs!

We already have a thread about V/F series here ...

I've merged the threads.

Mind that F-series won't be MPV-ish at all!!!!

So this chop is off.

Headlights: from what I've been told very similar ones could be expected to be featured on F5. Also note that "new generation" grille will be present, not the current one (like on CGI).

F5 design: look at the AMS CGI & by Huckfeldt. That was the chosen one, yet has been quite a bit tweaked since (front & rear mainly - to fit more in BMW future model line). But just to get the idea ... :usa7uh:

Eni and Scott,

Can you confirm the 3-series shooting brake, as reported by CAR magazine, AutoBild and illustrated by Huckfeldt?

So F3 will be based on the E90 saloon, while the 3-series shooting brake will be based on the E92 coupe..?

Oh, another thing. I heard that BMW dropped the suicide doors for the 4-door 6-series (F14) due to technical problems, but I find it odd now that the F5/RFK will indeed have the suicide doors. I guess the technical problem has been settled?

Thanks!

Re: F5 RFK will have a younger sigling - Code F3 Sportsvan

Jesus, man, where did i say/ask/comment anything about the damn MPV?

Thanks!

You didn't. But you've asked about chop which - look at it - is MPV-ish. :D

;)
