It is a material fact that BMW is the "top" car brand in China, way way way ahead of Audi... if you drive an Audi, you're OK, you're rich, but if you drive a BMW, you are at the top.. Not quite sure about MB, but mainland Chinese people are very much obsessed with BMWs. In Hong Kong, things are more equal between the MB, BMW and Audi. There I think is still a very wide preception that MB>BMW>>>Audi.

What you said is really not the truth,even most of the BMW drivers in Chinese car communities think MB's image is higher.

It's a good job by BMW. Not to be stereotypical, but I have noticed a preference for BMW's in predominantly Asian suburbs here in Brisbane over the last ten years or so.

China is the new battlefield and all Automakers are going to bend over backwards to stake their claim. It's do or die. BMW has done very well considering the headstart Audi has had.

I agree. To try and save from sounding stereotypical as well, most Asians I see and know seem to prefer BMW. I think the BMW attributes are more in line with what Asian car enthusiasts may generally seek.

At the same time, I've heard lots of people say that many just-coming-into-money Chinese (in China) are regarding M-B as the go-to brand by a long-shot, due to its stronghold as the Luxury benchmark for decades, namely in Pop Culture (where you can't hear a song, or watch a show/movie that talks about being rich and luxurious, without a Benz coming into play).

Either way, props to BMW. They're certainly on the ball.
