2 Series BMW presents the all new 2 series Coupe

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.

After a long period of waiting and teasing from various published spyphotos and videos, BMW released the official press release, ahead of the 2 series' official debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January and its market launch in March. So, what we have in front of us, is a typical BMW design, a two door, 4 seats coupe with a long bonnet, the cabin drawn towards the rear and a very small front overhand - typical BMW coupe proportions. The interior is shared with the current 1 series, though.

Compared to the outgoing 1 series coupe, the new 2 series feature a unique and distinctive front and rear design and have grown in all dimensions - the new 2 series is 77 mm longer and 32 mm wider than its predecessor, while increased are also the wheelbase (30 mm), the front (41 mm) and rear (43 mm) track width. The F22 2 series also come with a lower aerodynamic coefficient, at Cd=0.29.

Available from launch will be two petrol and three diesel engines. The first petrol engine is the N20 I4 2.0l turbo with 135 kW/ 184 hp of the 220i, the only petrol alternative to the top of the line (for now) M235i, that comes with the well-known N55 I6 3.0l turbo and 240 kW/ 326 hp. As far as diesel is concerned, the available versions are the 218d with and I4 2.0l turbo engine and 105 kW/ 143hp, the 220d with the same engine, but 135 kW/ 184 hp and the 225d with 160 kW/ 218hp. More details on the available power plants can be found after the jump.

All versions will come with various EfficientDynamics technologies, like the Air Curtain and the Automatic Start/ Stop function. Per the latest trend, Electric Power Steering comes as standard, but a variable sports steering system, alongside M Sport brakes and Adaptive M Suspension are in the options list. Finally, for the first time, a mechanical limited slip differential is available as optional equipment for the M235i.
