Z Series BMW presents the Z4 LCI at the 2013 Detroit NAIAS

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.

Just in the middle of its 7 years life, BMW is presenting the Z4 LCI, which will be shown for the first time in January at the Detroit NAIAS. BMW's undeniably beautiful roadster features some minor improvements, such as slightly redesigned front and rear bumpers, new grill in the front fenders and new rim designs. Also, three new exterior colours and two new interior combinations are now available.

Furthermore, a new entry level engine is introduced in the form of the Z4 sDrive18i with a 115 kW/156 hp at 5,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque between 1,250 and 4,400 rpm 2.0l turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The N20 engine, also found in the latest F30 3 series and F10 5 series, comes with twin-scroll turbocharging, High Precision Direct Petrol Injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control and Double-Vanos continuously variable camshaft control as standard. Also, an eight-speed sports automatic can also be ordered as an option with any engine.

The existing engine variants – the sDrive20i, sDrive28i, sDrive35i and sDrive35is – retain their places in the range, with the market launch of the new BMW Z4 being scheduled for March 2013. Please check our forum discussion (here) for more photos and info on the Z4 LCI.
