Concept BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe concept

Agree wholeheartedly. This is a one-off styling exercise that will surely eventually find its' way into oblivion. Perhaps a few minor details may be incorporated into/onto future BMW production cars (taillights, for example), but otherwise it serves the sole purpose of offering some short lived eye candy. Reithofer & Co. seem to have focused on the upcoming i series of cars as a priority.

Surely a one-off... too good looking to make it.

This will go into production before the wonderful topic-car.

The car doesn't have enough wheels, I cannot be the superior individual if a semi trailer has more wheels than my car, also the car is too low, it won't suit my life style activities of looking down on peasants.

:) I think of it this way:

1) BMW Group has Rolls-Royce to compete head on with cars such as the W222 S-Class from Mercedes-Benz and the not to distant Pullman.

2) BMW makes cars that actually should not be 7er vs S-Class. BMW has to stick to its roots and make Luxury Sport Saloons with SPORT as the key word. Hence the hope that BMW will target PORSCHE and Jaguar at that. For never, never ever have I really grasp BMW vs Mercedes-Benz at the core of their products intent and what they both want to achieve in their respective unique identities. Best Ride vs Best Handling or what!!????!!????

3) IF this concept, involving Italian Design House Pininfarina is a glimpse into a BMW future of Luxury Saloons targeting cars e.g. the Maserati Quadroporte, I say WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(y)

GO THE ROUTE BMW....it's after all in the DRIVING PLEASURE not Riding Pleasure for BMW fans/customers;)

So let's hope this is a glimpse of the next, sporty as hell, BMW 7 Series.

No no no no no , this is just a concept to please the fanboys ala the CS concept (never intended to go into production), JUST BEFORE THE ONSLAUGHT OF FWD BEEMERS AND i-CRAPS.

I have not seen the car personally as I visit Italy because the event is a great for those that love cars from past , present and future. Even better if the rain stays away.

You don't know that it may not make production at least in this form . At best this car is a collaboration , a melting pot of some of the best designers in the auto industry coming together to deliver their core values to an exciting concept. And in the luxury market that does not happen too often especially for a mainstream premium manufacturer like BMW.
But it conforms to what I haven been saying that BMW are now turning their attention to the luxury market , especially the high end luxury market. Ideally a flagship 8er could come potentially as a Coupe , four dr Coupe and possible Cabrio.
There has always been a strong desire to revisit the ideas of the CS within BMW since its demise.

The CS came at the worst possible time and was passed over in favour of investment into BMWi , EfficientDynamics and ConnectedDrive and modular engineering. Although many mock the FWD cars but they are still BMWs and a lot of engineering and development have gone into making them drive like BMWs , The MINI has proved BMW can make a good driving FWD car -it is still surprising how many remain ignorant about that fact. The BMWi brand has been discussed far too often and if you do not understand the reasons for and what it offers to the customer and the long term of BMW yet? Then you will because it will become evident.

At Munich there is much rumoured talk that Research and Development in the run up to the launch of the BMW i3 might start dropping hints about the next 7er and its significant weight reductions once everything else about something else has been revealed.
This Concept not only provides a clear look at BMWs design strategy for the next class of luxury vehicles but also product planning for the series which if you remember the CS Concept and how it escalated above the 7er in its style , positioning and substance this looks to do the same.

So whilst it is rightly so the S-Klasses day but during the Champagne and Canapes , someone will mention I wonder what BMW are launching next week ?

Jealousy is a very ugly thing, and we're seeing a very big glob of it right now, right here.

M

I was speaking to someone about the S-Klasse in design , and whilst I cannot argue with the technological and innovation of the new W222 , we both had reservations with the design especially in light metallics. Darker metallics are more its forte.
But in the midst of our New Movement launch for BMWi I spoke to a Journalist how is heading to Hamburg for the launch who is heading for the tech and innovation as he is comfortable with the design because he saw it around 3 years ago which their publication rendered exactly as the car revealed today.

So tell us SCOTT, is there any resemblance of the G11 7er on this new Coupe concept?

Mind the exciting concepts from BMW always lead to nothing, prevealing the MPV and SUV/SAV/SAC/SUCK products, which always make their way to production.

It would be nice to have some idea of what BMW has on their ideas warehouse in terms of design and styling.

You surely can't be serious? BMW spend many, many years and huge amounts of advertising budget promoting RWD as being superior to FWD, and you wonder why people think a FWD car isn't a satisfying drive?

No.

This thread should be focusing on the BMW concept. There is no need to mention the S-class. We have a thread for that already.

BMW aren't launching anything next week. They are presenting a concept car. Big difference.

X5 launch is just around the corner ... :)

Sure, and it's one of the more significant new car launches too, after all, BMW completely redefined the sport-utility segment with the original X5. However, it's not as significant a launch as a new S-Class. Few launches are...

I don't find that a big deal. I mean that just happens in design sometimes. For instance the E60 looked terrible in light colors (especially alpine white), and boring in dark colors. It looked best in middle grays.

E60 was perfect in every way , whichever color .
it was futuristic , cutting edge and totally ahead of its time. I can't still believe how current my E61 M5 still looks when I see that nose poking out of my garage. It still gets used for more tasking jobs but it can still turn heads , that's the thing about the Bangle era BMWs they still make you turn and stare , they have that design legacy in which seldom few modern cars have.

The i3 launch event in Munich will be very significant for BMW and Germany.
