Yeah, I saw a thread about it. It's speading all over the internet again, so BMW viral marketing is still working like before.

The manakin doll is really contemplating suicide due to the fact..

He should of boguht an Audi/Merc :)

It became viral when we posted it up :) We were the 2nd site to have it up (after a Connecticut newspaper) and sent it to Jalopnik. From there, it was down the hill.

The dealership should send us a thank you note :)

I don't agree. I think the only person here with an IQ of 80 is the person/people who thought it was a good idea to put that advert next to the freeway. I can see why people who at first glance would be concerned, especially as they will be concentrating on driving at the time.

People who do not recognize this as an advert are functionally illiterate - do not have an ability of understanding the media, and not being able to differ reality from fiction. :t-hands:

C'mon.

If anything that can be a subject to concern here is the issue whether the mannequin & teddy are fixed properly to the board: so the wind or resonance would not make them fall on the highway, causing damages & accidents. :usa7uh:

A agree with you: I would not put such a board upon a highway at all. Since there is a chance (although a thin one probably) something goes wrong: eg. teddy falling down, crashing your windshield, causing you to steer away & cause an accident.

ENI, it's interesting, because I find you "functionally illiterate" for not recognising that sticking what looks like a realistic human being on the top of the billboard is a bad idea. :eusa_doh: Yes, if you were stood by the side of the road it would be very easy to identify it as "not real", but put yourself in the position of driving a car and catching it with the corner of your eye? A distraction like that is not what you want next to a highway. I cannot believe this was even allowed at all.

As said: if the puppets are not instantly recognized as a-part-of-an-ad-puppets, then people have issues with functional literacy (the one regarding media).

And if only catching the shapes with a corner of an eye (not recognizing them clearly), and then reacting in panic (without knowing what's really there) & calling 911 is also beyond any reason.

Sure many of people are having problems with that - too many, unfortunately. Therefore I agree such ad can be more confusing in message than it really is.

I remember a similar situation with "Don't drink & drive" board with fake rear end of a car was sticking out of the board (looking like the car crashed into the board, and stuck there), and stupid people also thought it was a real car - despite the board was way too high & way to far from the road anything such would be even remotely possible. Except the car would be a flying car. :D;)

IMO much more dangerous & confusing can be the ads using words like "Caution!" or "Warning!" or "Alert!", ore even imitating traffic signs. :t-crazy2:

The models are in full 3D, and even casting their own shadows on the Billboard. It's understandable to think they are real people when you're driving on the road with 100 km/h and cast a quick glimpse to them, not even reading the text...the people who called probably didn't even see that the other 'person' is a giant teddybear....

I guess that makes me a functional illiterate.
I think it is dumb idea to put up such an ad over the highway- I wonder what they were thinking.
