Its supposed to be a BMW Mini, with front wheel drive, competing in size with VW Polo.... ?! Hmmmm :t-hands:

Here is the original link AUTO BILD 33/2009 - Kleinwagen von BMW - News - autobild.de

It was an original idea before we changed direction with our MegaCity Vehicle. There will not be a BMW before the 1er and there will not be a direct competitor for MINI from BMW . MINI will always stay underneath BMW.

The Roadster and Coupe will inherit the Z2 names.

There will be BMW Isetta family of microcars in different shapes ...

Yet the design & styling is still not known - either will they go retro (like with MINI), or going more avant-garde (like BMW). The discussion is still going on. Design department are doing first idea sketches (brainstorming) for the design strategy department - several ideas will be presented to the Board, and then the chosen strategy will be used in the design brief for the Isetta car ...

I was told there was a huge difference between van Hooydonk & Bangle regarding the design of the "fourth" brand (which will now be a BMW sub-brand "only"). AVH & the Board has the same vision, while Bangle had another idea. On the other brands (core BMW, MINI, RR) AvH & Bangle were on the same level - sharing visions of the brand designs.

But I doubt the BMW microcar will look just like shrunken 1er.

That's not a bad think!! Like the design of the 1-series. And a smaller city car should be great… :usa7uh:

hm bmw already has two retro inspired brands
so putting the isetta family into the avant-garde niche ain't that of a bad idea.

Of course they are retro inspired - since both MINI & RR are cult & iconic brands. But so is Isetta.

:usa7uh:

I can't imagine the new Isetta not anyhow being connected to the original one - design wise.

of course the new isetta needs to be connected(design wise) to the original isetta, but this doesn't necessary mean to pick up retro styling elements as they did with mini and the rr(they kept them as low as possible, but they are still there)

I hope they will use conventional doors for the new Isetta.

OT. I recall that some years before a member commented on the Isetta "It's like stepping into your frigde" The funniest comment I've ever read in GCF...

:D

Ha ha ha ha...I think I read that somewhere too. BTW, that chop just looks like a 1er with X1's front. Not that creative. ;)

Unfortunately for safety issues that cannot be replicated neither can the movable steering wheel . It will get regular doors for a more conventional style of entry .
Whilst the fridge is a good metaphor for the isetta I actually find it is like stepping in a waltzer car at the fairground and has the same effect if you try to drift :D

I say why not ... I like it better than a mini! :t-drive:

OMG, dude, I would love the see a vid of that.

There used to be one on YouTube will need to search for it.
It was an unofficial Isetta track video but it features a drift as the little car struggles to retain grip and enters a few revolutions before stopping.

Logically how can we go lower , BMW entry begins with the 1er so for a conventional city car as a sub brand you have to resort to another concept entirely and to give this vehicle the appeal it needs to succeed it has to something very unconventional and very personal to draw people in.

I'll try to look for it, but if you find it before me than please post it. :D
