I might be in the minority, but this is indeed the best BMW M5 of all times. Really pinnacle of what M division is all about.

For me it is M3 E46. But in fact the M5 E60 is the most "motorsport" sedan ever built, it had an F1 inspired engine and gearbox, it was like a 911 GT3 in sedan form. Not the most comfortable limo. Now it is tough to have a fast car without FI.

Agreed. Way back circa 2004 when I first found out that the brand new E60 M5 at the time comes with a S85 V10 engine that was built alongside the Sauber-BMW F1 racing car V10 at the landshut foundry in Munich, I was deeply mesmerized that a 4 door mid-sized sedan had an engine that was lifted directly from racing (well, almost).

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
