M3/M4 BMW M3 GT2 wins the 2010 24 hours Nürburgring

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

An historical moment for BMW Motorsport.

In an exciting race, No. 25 BMW M3 GT2 won the 24 hr Nurburgring race. While Audi dominated qualifying and Porsche looked set to make history, it was BMW that ended up on top after 154 laps in the 38th annual Nürburgring 24 Hours. The Bavarian manufacturer’s return to the famed 15.5-mile Nordschleife circuit was rewarded with an unexpected victory in the twice-around-the-clock German classic.

The No. 25 BMW Team Schnitzer M3 GT2 of Jorg Müller, Augusto Farfus, Uwe Alzen and Pedro Lamy had its share of minor setbacks, including an overnight radiator change and late-race gearbox concerns, but managed to take the win, five years after the Charly Lamm-led team’s last triumph at the famed German circuit.

History was made with Lamy scoring his fifth Nürburgring 24 victory, matching German Marcel Tiemann as the most successful drivers on the ‘Green Hell’.
In front of 220,000 fans, the #1 Manthey Porsche stormed from 7th on the grid up to 1st on the opening lap, a position it held for the first few hours before crashing early in the night.

GT3 R Hybrid incredibly took the lead up until the 22nd hour and appeared to en route to re-writing the history books, but ground to a halt with less than two hours remaining. With suspected engine issues, the race was over for Jörg Bergmeister, Richard Lietz, Marco Holzer and Martin Ragginger.

It gave the slower, yet more reliable BMW the lead and the unlikely victory in a weekend that was dominated by Audis and Porsches.

The No. 26 Schnitzer BMW of Dirk Müller, Dirk Werner, Dirk Adorf and Andy Priaulx recovered from a first-hour accident to finish seventh overall, one position behind the highest-placed Porsche from the Jurgen Alzen-run H&R Spezialfedern squad.

A memorable day for BMW at Nurburgring and BMW proved one more time that M Power is still very much so alive.

mods please don't merge this post with the OP, I want it separate

All eyes are on the Ring for this weekends 24hr race and expectations are high particuliar for the M3 GT. If success beckons the next phase into the scaling down of the E92 could become apparent after the incoming M3 GTS stakes it's claim in history. Plans are in the running for another ltd edition to eclipse the current and sold out GTS , success in this race is one factor , but also continuing success in the ALMS and the Jeff Koons liviered M3 that will race this years 24hr Le Mans.

Well, this victory should settle things :D

Uber M3 above the GTS on the way :eusa_danc:eusa_danc ;)

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany. Official website: BMW M
