I'd like to see a full ICE and full electric production version. Like, both. ICE with 550 hp I6 would do if they keep the weight down, and then a heavier BEV version with like 700 hp.

BMW needs something like this in the racing series. The AMG GT is just insanely popular as a track toy, and it would be wise for BMW to offer something similar.

It's interesting now that both the bookends of BMWi and BMWM will have their respective sports cars. It was what was proposed at the very inception of BMWi until the i8 completely dominated the final discussions.
But it more or less confirms what was told at the shareholder meeting back in May. That BMWi will be solely Electric. In a brand where they are shoring up on the EV only it does not make sense for i8 to remain plug-in-hybrid especially after discontinuing the i3 Range-extender.
Choice is good.

BMWi, BMW M, I don't really care how they call it. I just want that sportscar in production form with one being ICE and one being BEV. And from the ICE version an 'M' as a track toy like the GT3/2 RS or AMG GT R.

If you go to the Nurburgring right now, you're bound to see 100 different AMG GT cars hanging around. All enthousiasts who drive this car on the Ring. And who drive their S class, 7er or Bentley during the weekdays. BMW needs a piece of this pie.

It is the confirmation that the around 20,000 i8 sold are not in vain and with two or three years still ahead, it is a hit, not to mention what it does for the brand in terms of image.
Beautiful this M Next, and living with a new i8 imagine what that crazy new design will be.

There were none and now there will be two supercars and maybe a third one, according to M division, they want to make bespokeS, I agree with @klier that I should be a competitor of the AMG GT who is the only one who achieved the miracle of taking away many sales from 911 a lot more than the R8.

Compared to all the other BMW top-end model flops (M1, E31 8er , Z8) the BMW i8 (both variants) is definitely a success, both sales and image wise. And so is the new 8er family. And the M8 models are not even here yet! BMW has finally got the top-end market right.

BMW M (that's how simply the BEV 2-seater supercar will be called) will replace the i8 in spirit, while the next i8 will actually be BEV Gran Turismo model - like current 8er. The next 8er GC might get the successor in i9. Normal 8er models will be discontinued. While i7 is supposed to be some sort of luxo sedan-fastback. Think of it as BEV successor to 6er GT, which would be discontinued. Or something previewed by BMW Vision Next 100 (but larger).

Just look at MB, Audi, Porsche ... Expect similar BEVs from BMW. And vise versa.

Mind the German Trio will have much broader BEV portfolio than eg TESLA with its S3XY core (+ Roadster + pick-up). But still consolidated model line compared to today's situation. Quite some niche models will be completely canceled, some will live on as BEV spin-offs only.

It is hilarious that this car was unveiled almost 2 months ago and we’re only getting a thread about it now. Sums up how much interest there is in this car.

No there is an additional thread. It's just that it is not being used.

From what I see, among the rumors that come and go, some very surprising and harmful because it is said that currently successful models are canceled, is that the word "cancel" is being used badly for yellowing in the reports or for simply misunderstanding.

According to what I read will only do is that in the next generation of those models change drivetrain in most cases, 8er for i8 / i9, 6GT for i7 etc, it is like saying that the Panamera will be canceled, in fact it will be changing for the Taycan that is basically the same as EV.

It is not really a "car" yet but only a concept.
What there is, is a bit of disappointment and disbelief for countless promises and to wait for more than 30 years, but if you check there is not only one thread but several through the years with each new promise.
Now that it will be real, little by little this will be one of the threads which generates greater interest of all of the brand

They will continue to confuse them until the prototypes of the i8 and the M Next are both on the street ...

So sayeth the Tesla majority shareholder.
The oil rig work is excellent btw in case you are curious.

Why don't you go hug some batteries?

;)

It’s funny that you say that because whoever drives the M next - that’s exactly what they’re butt cheeks will be hugging :D

PS here’s some art work for you to colour in with your crayons :D

No, a dedicated thread was never created. The small amount of discussion about the M Next was buried within the "BMW AG: What's Next" thread, and people seemed more interested in what the designer was wearing at the launch.
