BMW Estoril Blue returns
BMW is bringing back its famous Estoril Blue paint scheme for its M cars.

The colour was axed because it was solvent-based and made using a process which is harmful to the environment. But BMW has finally figured out how to recreate the exact same colour using new eco-friendly water-based paint. And it should be available to order in the next few months.

A product planning manager for BMW’s M division told us: “Our paint specialists initially weren’t able to recreate the colour using water-based paints. That’s why Estoril Blue is not currently available. But they’ve been working on this problem for some time and they have finally cracked it. You can expect to see it on cars again soon.”

Estoril Blue was a huge hit on previous generations of M3s and M5s and, in the UK at least, it was the most popular colour. As a result customers were very disappointed that it wasn’t offered on the current generation cars. Various websites and forums have been running petitions to get BMW to bring the paint back. Well, guys, we can officially confirm your requests have been met! --

I have seen Monte Carlo blue on X5 M next Estoril X5 parked nearby at a M tour and they look the same to me. Did they just rename the color?

I was thinking the same thing, its probably a very sublte deviation of Estoril blue, the colour are almost identical.

Nope, they are not the same. They are similar, yes, but far from being same. Monte Carlo blue doesn't have the purple sheen in certain lights that Estoril blue has.

Damn, I miss my E36 now. :crying6cc
