BMW's plans for the Geneva Motor Show:

* BMW will use this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, taking place on 3 – 13 March, to present the world premiere of the new BMW M760Li xDrive.

* Also making its debut appearance will be the iPerformance model designation which, from July 2016, will identify the transfer of technology from BMW i to the BMW core brand in all BMW plug-in hybrid vehicles. The new BMW 740e iPerformance, BMW 740Le iPerformance and BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance plug-in hybrid luxury sedans will be presented at the Geneva show.

* Plus, the new BMW M2 will take to the stage with a host of M Performance components.

* BMW i will give a debut to the BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition.

* BMW ConnectedDrive will unveil the new On-Street Parking Information service.

Good God. "BMW 740Le xDrive iPerformance". Selecting the "de-badge" option on that will save about 10kg.

The BMW stand at Geneva has been boring for several years now. I go to Geneva every year on the opening day, and this year will be no exception. I used to go straight to the BMW stand when I got there. Not this year. Having seen the M2 already in Brussels, I may even leave it to last just in case I run out of time.

I guess BMW would say China has overtaken Geneva in importance.

Its not only geneva, they kind of release their cars in between shows.. there haven't been a real show stopper from BMW for ages.

BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition announced for Geneva
The countdown to the Geneva Motor Show continues as BMW has announced plans to use the event to introduce the new i8 Protonic Red Edition.

The company didn't provide many pictures of the model but confirmed it will feature a unique Protonic Red exterior with Frozen Grey metallic accents. The car will also come equipped with 20-inch W-spoke light-alloy wheels that are painted in Aluminum matte and Orbit Grey metallic.

The unique styling carries over to the interior as customers will find red contrast stitching, carbon fiber trim, and "i8" embossed headrests. The car also features “Protonic Red Edition” door sill plates, carbon-fiber door handles, and grey seat belts. Other highlights including black ceramic detailing on the gear selector and special floor mats with leather piping and red contrast stitching.

Like the standard model, the special edition will have a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. This enables the car to produce a combined maximum output of 357 horsepower which is enough to allow the i8 to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph.

The BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition will go into production in July and the model will only be available for a limited time.

WORLD PREMIERE: BMW 740e iPerformance
39536fa0663ca188053b7387570174c8.webp

BMW recently started making what it calls M Performance models, which are standard BMW models with some M Division DNA injected into them. Cars like the BMW M235i, X4 M40i and M760Li are all M Performance models. It’s an idea that’s worked well so far for BMW, so much so that BMW is looking to create another line of performance models, called iPerformance.

In a nutshell, BMW’s Performance models are going to be plug-in hybrid variants of standard BMW vehicles with some i Division technology baked in. For instance, the upcoming BMW 740e iPerformance will be a plug-in hybrid variant of the new 7 Series and the 330e will become a 330e iPerformance. So, it’s very similar to the M Performance models, just with hybrid tech, not performance tech. This line of vehicles will start in July, 2016 with the upcoming 740e iPerformance.

These iPerformance models will be distinguished by having the “i” logo on the front fender as well as BMW i-style blue accents on kidney grilles, wheel hubs and eDrive logo on the C-pillar. So BMW will going out of its way to brand its iPerformance line of cars, much like it does with the M Performance cars. There are as many M badges on an M235i as there are an M3, so expect the iPerformance badges to adorn all plug-in hybrids.

The upcoming BMW 740e iPerformance will offer a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired with an electric motor to power either the rear or all four wheels. The total power output of the engine and motor combine will be 326 hp and it will be able to return up to a combined 2.1 liters per 100 kilometers (112 mpg US). CO2 emissions will be around 43 grams per kilometer, so it will be exempt from many taxes in Europe.

But the BMW 740e iPerformance will just be the start. All plug-in hybrids will be branded with the iPerformance badge, which will represent the transfer of technology from the i Division to the BMW Core brand, much the same way the M Performance badge shows the transfer of tech from BMW M to BMW’s Core brand. So just like how the BMW M235i, X4 M40i and M760Li aren’t genuine M cars but BMW cars injected with M DNA, BMW’s iPerformance cars aren’t genuine i Division cars but BMW cars injected with i Division DNA.

C class cabrio for sure
C43 coupe for sure
Possibly E63 - No.
possibly e class wagon.- No
then there is always a risk for some concept:) ( hopefully)-No

now if we do the bmw thing, and list colors and engine options as premieres we might be able to extend the list.

C-Klasse Cabrio debuts last week of February according to OICA.

Gees BMW and their long badges. First I thought the S-drive and X-drive badging was absurd on the X5 and X6 now this BMW 740Le X-drive iPerformance badge will take a whole day to announce! :banghead:

It's not that I mind the length of the badge / model designation, because at the end of the day, 740Le xDrive is what most people will call it and that's not too bad in my opinion.

Since the iPerformance portion of the name doesn't actually tell you anything more about the car, most people won't bother with it. I don't know may Z4 owners that bother saying the sDrive part of their cars name, and the people with sDrive X cars probably don't admit it anyway :D

What I don't like, is BMW have now thrown BMWi, 'i', ActiveHybrid, eDrive, xyz'e', and now iPerformance out into the market place, and used them all within the space of a few years, I think it's confusing to the general public.

Except it won't say all that on the actual car, unlike Mercedes which has models with whole walls of text on the back.
