I hope the M5 manages to make this design look aggressive...which I think might be a difficult task with the G30's design. This looks very mild, but overall nice work as always by Alpina.
This car is based on which model, M550i?
I've read that it's based on a 540i, but then it gets the V8 engine.I believe (could be wrong) the engine in the B5 is the N63M30A which is clearly similar to the N63B44C in the 550, and clearly the body is the same as the G30.... but personally, these days I don't see Alpina's being based on specific BMW models. It get's it's own engine stuck in it on the BMW's assembly line, it receives its own VIN from new, lots of other things are bespoke to it. Gone are the days of an Alpina starting off life as a BMW, then becoming an Alpina - they're unique models now with their own type codes from BMW.

I'd like to know, if Alpina will be making a D(iesel)5 again.
Does this come with Xdrive or is it RWD?
Alpina will only go the diesel route because BMW is still investing into the diesel (one last time for this G30 generation). Alpina sees how high the demand for the 540i is compared to the diesel models and they understand that the end for the diesel is around the corner. The future for Alpina is dependent on what BMW does but they can also influence the development as they are involved right from the start. i.e. development of the G30. Alpina R&D guys helped BMW set up the G30 to what it is today. BMW works so closely together with Alpina (as the know-how is extremely high for such a small family company) that even the BMW F1 engines were tested on Alpina engine dynos.I think I'm right in saying that the B5 and D5 both sold in fairly equal numbers, with about 500 of each being produced. And, as its been suggested (by way of XD7, D7 and D6 trademark registrations) that Alpina will be increasing their diesel range I think G30 & G31 D5's are inevitable.
