Hot! BMW AG: What's Next

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates
In this day and age, one never knows when an article is true or not. But I am reading in the Spanish press that, after the ban of the pop up door handles, China might be after the all-screen interiors, since there seems to be safety concerns.

Who would have though, the Chinese saving the rest of us from some of the most anoying modern cars features.

I am posting it here since it obviously impacts the NK BMWs...

The Chinese market created and solved the problem. The Chinese buyers tended to like the sleek look of flush door handles, which every manufacturer fell over themselves backwards to accommodate. Then the Chinese government realised it was dangerous and legislated against flush door handles.

Best door handles are the 911/i4 type IMO. Very similar to the ones the old E39 5er and E38 7er had back in the day.

Nice and functional.

Because the German authorities were too afraid to loose sales in China, they looked away when German brands came with flush handles and all screens to capitalize on said Chinese sales when we all full well know they're dangerous.

Best for safety is a handle sticking out F30/G30 style. Probably for ergonomics too.

The Audi are fully electric AFAIK.

I believe that you are correct.

I am commenting in the context of the design and how it blends into the flank (or DLO sill) surfacing.

I suppose that the internals of the Audi solution could be "corrected", hence accomodating a mechanical "pull and release" without influencing the flush design of the handles.

Oh yes...I also like the look of the doorhandles on the G70 BMW 7er:
