Hot! BMW AG: What's Next


The G60 is plain ugly in real life and from all angles the design front, side or rear looks awkward and doesn't look elegant at all like the G30. I have seen one parked next to an Audi A6 and the boot, roof and greenhouse are at least 5cm taller than the A6, which looks so much more elegant and sleek in comparison.

The LCI G30 was one of the best looking 5 series models ever in my opinion and then its successor becomes the ugliest 5 ever. What a disaster.

Its also too big, for crying out loud its bigger than the E65 a massive 5060mm long, just 11cm shorter than the W223 S-class.

I love all the previous 5 series models, but I just cant seem to like the G60. I hope the LCI will be a massive change and improve this ugly duckling.
The g30, and prior F10, were gorgeous with their "Swept back" RWD proportions.

The G30 is a fantastic looking car, especially this LCI version. I was very close to buying a 2017 520d G30 3 years ago, it was a tough choice between that car and the W213 E200 that I finally purchased.
the pre facelifted G30 to me is the worst looking 5er ever and thank god the facelift fixed it and maked it look 100x better,BTW this applies to the G11 7er as well

I think it's the exact opposite; the G11 facelift has turned it into a characterless car. Before the facelift, it looked like a purebred BMW.

This thing looks scary. Thankfully, they've learned their lesson.

I find the G30/31 5 series cars fine examples of a former BMW design paradigm. Upon presentation and well into the model run, they were visually stunning IMHO.

However, when looking at the G60/61 5er "in the metal", I am actually surprised how my initial skepticism regarding its exterior design has completely evaporated. Tastefully spec'd, I find them very handsome cars. I've truly embraced the design. Of course, I also find the W214 E-Class beautiful as well-but in a somewhat different way. And as with most cars, paint and rims are so important.
 
Unfortunately, after the G30 LCI was done with its life cycle. The current G60 came in, and could not be able to keep up with its predecessor, externally and internally.
That's one perspective, not the view of the masses who have made the G60 far more successful in sales than the G30 ever was.
The incredibly boring G30 (despite selling very well) overwhelmingly lost out to the W213 throughout its production run, and today, with the G60 and W214, the situation is completely reversed.

This doesn't change the fact that the G30 must be one of the best cars ever built, especially the legendary CS, but they played it very safe with the design.
 
TBH the G60 is not only the 5er successor but it’s also the successor of the SWB 7er, that’s why it’s so long.

The current generation of the 7er is only available as a LWB.

Absolutely agree.

The G70 7er is a gargantuan automobile that no longer has the market relevance that it's predecessors once had here in the EU. But the G60/61's exterior dimensions place it comfortably in that particular spot that was once occcupied by the more popular large luxury segment sedans of not too long ago. And that makes the G60/61 versatile. From the more subdued company executive car all the way up to an amazingly luxurious, eye-catching automobile, also courtesy of BMW Individual.

It's quite the same with the W214 E-Class and new C9 Audi A6 as well.

Point of Controversy: “Technological Openness”


When Zipse refused to participate in the politically imposed, radical shift toward electromobility and instead advocated for technological openness, he was quickly branded indecisive and reactionary by politicians, scientists, and the media. Among the most vehement critics of BMW’s stance—without mentioning Zipse by name—was none other than Herbert Diess, former BMW manager and former CEO of Volkswagen. He described technological openness as a “dead end” that would cost the industry valuable time in the fight against growing competition from China.

Now the situation has reversed. Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche are forced to grapple with the consequences, sometimes with losses in the millions, of their premature bet on electromobility.

BMW, on the other hand, not only sells far more electric cars than its German competitors but also boasts the best-positioned technology thanks to its New Class.
