Mercedes in talks to use BMW engines for future petrol cars

Mercedes-Benz is in advanced talks about potentially using BMW's four-cylinder petrol engines for a wide range of future cars, as part of a radical rethink of its ICE strategy prompted by slower-than-expected take-up of its EVs.

A Mercedes source has told Autocar the two firms are already at high level of planning and negotiations, and an announcement on whether it will go ahead expected before the end of the year.

I think the M254 will probably do a job for the time being. But if we're talking about the W215, then they'll probably have something in place by then. Well, I hope. That or, if the EV E class is good enough, then start the E class with the 6-cylinder as the base.

Leylandi might have a heart attack at this news.

I wonder who will go first in the A I design race? It certainly means a rapid turnaround especially for some that will take a week will now only take a minute or so. Just think by the time you wake up with A I it’s already designed, engineered, and in serial production by the time you go to bed.
I see the above creation being stolen to create a sports car EV.

Can A I create the Neue-Klasse? Ja!

Indeed, I've just very recently learned just how entertaining text-prompting AI generated automotive design can be. A new toy of sorts for me. Most certainly, the credit for the designs created should be apportioned almost exclusively to the quality of the AI provided by vendor or freeware provider. I'm just entering sentences and terms on a keyboard. It's certainly fun to fool around with AI created automotive design. And it can sometime enable me to alter what I do not particularly care for on real-life automobiles. Actually, my only option. I cannot sketch to save my life.

Some automakers are already using AI to come up with different variations of their already existing designs to see what they could implement before showing it to the world.
Few years ago Adrian van Hooydonk said that they were experimenting with AI, especially in designing wheels. But still, they need to be sketched and designed properly by hand. You can easily see which car was sketched by a person and which was designed using a computer software. The latter looks much more industrial, and lacks emotion.

Sketching is the way to go, at least for now. Unfortunately AI still cannot fully translate your prompts into the generated pictures, because they use what’s on the web to collect data, so it usually ends up looking like an already existing model.
To clearly design what you envisioned, you just need a pencil, and a blank paper 😆🙌🏻.
After perfecting your sketches, you can send them to AI softwares to turn them into 3D renders. It’s much better than letting AI decide what to do.

That is an interesting piece of information. Thanks. Actually, I'm not THAT bad at sketching silhouette images. I used to do a lot of that as a kid back in the Stone Ages, in fact. It is when multidimensionality comes into play, I fail spectacularly.

But hey, an aversion towards AI generated images appears to be shared by more than a few here on these forums. I suppose that I can simply stop posting them here. No biggie whatsoever.
