Limited edition 8 Series confirmed for Pebble Beach
World Premiere of an Exclusive Limited-Edition BMW 8 Series.
Thursday evening at a private location, invited media will get their very first glimpse of a special, limited-edition BMW 8 Series.
Since its introduction in the summer of 2018, the second-generation BMW 8 Series has been lauded for its outstanding performance, beautiful design, and ultramodern technology. Initially available as the V8-powered M850i coupe, the line soon expanded to include a convertible and a 4-door Gran Coupe. Six-cylinder 840i models were introduced for model year 2020, as were the thundering M8 and M8 Competition.
The 8 Series also served as the basis for the M8 GTE race car, which competed in the GTLM class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 seasons. Campaigned by BMW M Team RLL, the M8 GTE earned two poles and five victories, including winning its class at both the 2019 and the 2020 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The details of this special edition BMW 8 Series will be announced to the public on Thursday, August 14, at 10:15 PM Eastern Time, 7:15 PM Pacific Time.

BMW's Pebble Beach Surprise Could Spell The End Of This Model | Carscoops
An 8-Series special edition will debut at Monterey Car Week and it could be a last hurrahwww.carscoops.com
A 4 door GC version of the Skytop/Speedtop would be cool.
A rescue plan is underway to make money for the 8 series, which is facing obsolescence at potential dealerships.
I like the 8 series, but I've never really felt it was a competitor to the S coupe. Feels more like a replacement for the 6 series (which BMW stopped selling, incidentally).I think it will be more regular than that. Something peole can actually buy perhaps.
Meanwile, Mercedes has long ago let go of the S class coupe because it's not selling. So a rescue plan would already be 10 times better than simply stop selling an entire model like MB has done.

This with a cream or brown leather interior with some accenting. Oof. Absolutely stunning. I am so sad that Mercedes discontinued it.The S-Coupe was one the best looking cars ever produced imho. It would be a more suitable competitor to models like Bentley Continental GT. 8-Series just felt like a bigger 4-Series with more luxurious interior and bigger engine. It still looks great though. One of the best, if not the best looking modern BMW.
Back to the S-Coupe, I actually always wanted to own a 65 AMG in emerald green with tan interior.
Sheesh! Just look at this beauty.

They Build the EQS Instead, which is a „huge sales hit“.FWIW the S Coupe sold relatively well till discontinuance. It led a normal full life cycle, just didn't get a successor per Mercedes's pripr managements model line cuts.
Perhaps the increasingly shrinking market for large, luxurious 2 door, 2+2 "personal" coupes has legitimized the termination of their, albeit low unit volume, production. Maybe cars such as the limited unit volume, built to order, BMW Skytop/ Speedtop will be sufficient for filling the requirements of the very small, highly affluent potential customer base. M-B has "Mythos", "Manufaktur", that could provide these sorts of cars. They would be highly effective "brand promoters" as well. Not unsimilar to Bentley's Mulliner Batur.
Maybe calling it “crap” is unfair but let’s say it was super underwhelming.

The market for whales who stranded on the beach is obviously much bigger, especially If you put a rubbish interior in to it.Perhaps the increasingly shrinking market for large, luxurious 2 door, 2+2 "personal" coupes has legitimized the termination of their, albeit low unit volume, production.
