BMW: We don't want Apple or Google taking over all the vehicle interactions - this is definitely our space
Chris Hall, Editorial Director · 7 January 2023 · News

"We don't like that," said Weber, "because this is a BMW and not an Apple Car."

Apple isn't being singled out by BMW: indeed, Google is in the same position, with BMW unwilling to offer the full Google Automotive Services (as you'd find in Polestar or Volvo for example), mainly because of the licensing involved and what happens to customer data. BMW doesn't want to hand that over to Google.

In the meantime.... it seems that someone wants to be a member of GCF

"Digitization is the all-encompassing topic and the supreme discipline for a successful future, says BMW development board member Frank Weber, for example, and presents the iVision DEE study on stage as proof.
This vision of a "Digital Emotional Experience" not only impressive proof that you can still draw cars in Munich that inspire rather than provoke, t It is also the most concrete panorama to date of the mythical "New Class" with which BMW intends to ignite the next stage of the electric revolution in the middle of the decade and initially replace the 3 Series and X3."

According to Carwow there will be another concept to actually preview the Neu Klasse. Apparently this wasn’t a fully finished concept.
No surprise. BMW said that months ago. Vision first, concept next (IAA), production 2025

The entire car is a great technological showcase. They have stated that some of the features will be in production by 2025. The most obvious ones are:
-iDrive 9
-New Heads-up display
-Haptic feedback through vibrations
-Mixed reality level 2

Colour changing e-ink panels are super cool but have only been in development for 8 years. However for use externally, they will be very expensive for the following reasons:
-Work reliably at -30C.
-Be automotive grade which means no discolouration over time.
-Withstand 40-50C without distorting or becoming permanently damaged
-Be capable of more than 32 colours.
-Repairability that's not cost prohibitive.
That's not iDrive 9

Great, so it's not that it will be a concept of the "X" SUV NK but that we will discover a DEE closer to production.

Does Dee manage to convey in person and in general that sympathy and simplicity as pleasant as it is inexplicable from the first four generations of the 3 series?, because from what I see in the photos and videos I think that was the intention

So what about the Dee concept ? A concept that will never go to production, when is the new concept releasing any info

Instead of reading those silly comments from the usual funny internet characters let's get serious:
Some interesting affirmations and concepts of AVH at CES.

"One of those ideas
that could be closer to reality than not is the crazy e Ink paint scheme. BMW has found that this color-changing paint doesn’t consume much energy, making it technically viable for future production. It’s a great example of how much faster things are moving today –"

He also notes that the radical design looks like it “skipped a generation,” (DEE), which is an accurate synopsis. This ties into what he said regarding the rapid change. “The world is changing faster and faster,” he said, you dream it, you visualize, you build it

Future Coachbuilt Projects
The new BMW 3.0 CSL was a dream project for the chief designer and now that the door was open, he’s looking forward to potentially working on other coachbuilt projects.
“With so many concept vehicles at Villa d’Este had that in the back of our mind, the future of coachbuilt projects could be electric as well"

The best part is where he has to defend their absence of leading design language.

His words… „the current design is working because people are buying our cars”. Damn, he forgets that Dacia and Toyota are doing great too, looking same uninspiring as current BMW’s.

I repeat what I said many times, he should never be a head designer. A wasted decade.

Seems to inspire BMW buyers a lot.

According to the numbers until the third quarter and the internal information published, they will earn more money than ever before in history, I am talking about almost triple the profits than their best previous year (to be confirmed with the fourth quarter) and also the BMW Group is the world's largest luxury car manufacturer in 2023 (again) and BMW alone is the world's best-selling luxury car brand in 2023 (again).

*I don't know what your point of view will be, but the Dacia are remarkable, a brand from scratch, which became an instant success and I can't stop looking when a Duster passes in front of me.

Thank you for your propaganda.

I think you didn’t understand my post.
Selling more entry level VAN’s and Crossovers has nothing to do with design quality.

Btw, BMW is no longer best selling premium brand in their main market, US, but anyway, that wasn’t the topic.

@leylandi , I don't understand your laugh?, (I never understand it), about official data
Thank you for your propaganda.
Again - Official data

Yeah I get it, basically you don't like most of them.
Btw, BMW is no longer best selling premium brand in their main market, US, but anyway, that wasn’t the topic.
There are no figures for that yet, but it is estimated that yes, it will be on top of Mercedes like last year.

BMW lost the US as market no1 status a few years back. BMWs largest market is China.

Btw, BMW is no longer best selling premium brand in their main market, US, but anyway, that wasn’t the topic.

If it wasn't the topic it was probably best not to bring it up. As of Q3 it was 594k units to China and 251k to the USA. 2021 was 848k to China vs 368k to the USA, and it's been a similar situation for years, and that's hardly due to a spectacular decline in USA, this year they're less than 4% off their best year in the US ever and had their second best year since 2016.

But, thank you for your propaganda.

but the Dacia are remarkable, a brand from scratch, which became an instant success

Sarcasm?
