Hot! BMW AG: What's Next

Latest news, trending discussions, reviews, and major updates

Well it seems like "BMW M sales and marketing vice president Timo Resch" is a complete dumb@$$ -- you don't mess with the immediate identification of a badge that's become so strong and iconic in the middle of fierce competition.

Perhaps they're ultimately looking to use the three M colors (light blue, dark blue, red), amongst other hues, as contrasting surrounds to black badges, according to the given level in the M hierarchy:
  • Red for the top-of-the-line CSL (as seen on the M4 CSL)
  • Dark blue for the CS
  • Light blue for the Competition
  • Chrome (?) for the base M a.k.a. M High Performance
  • Bronze for the M Performance a.k.a. "M Lite" (as already seen on the iX M60).

May and June have been months full of news, like the good times, it is seen that all the brands made good money last year

Resch is new to the role. Jan 2022. So likely that decision was made before

Yes, I think this black and white Alfa Romeo badge is just as terrible, compared to how fresh, iconic and instantly recognizable the actual colored one looks, especially given the brand's sporty ethos and Latin style.

If I recall correctly these were introduced back in 2015 on the Giulia, the high stakes 'rebirth' model. My guess is the top priority was (and probably still is) for Alfa to start shedding its frivolous and unreliable reputation and gradually become a credible alternative to the German premium trio, including with little subconscious hints such as these more serious, sober and 'respectable' badges, at least at certain locations (wheels, steering wheel) -- I think it looks generic as s#!t, ridiculously try-hard, and does more harm than good by chipping away at the brand's flamboyant personality which is primarily what attracts Alfa buyers in the first place anyway.

I don't know if you noticed this, I just now looking at the post by @advantage20 , it seems that the Next100 concept brought with it the hint of the exact pattern grill of the iX, the new "angels" DLRs of the LMDh and the illuminated grill contour of the 7 series (no photo, I can only post three).

What other things did he bring? because they will surely come into production, perhaps the "living" fenders

There certainly were other ways to design the taillights than mimicking a now well-established Lamborghini front and rear graphic signature... especially given that Lamborghini will now also compete in LMDh and might come up with something similar (and even if they don't, this still screams Lamborghini... and more lately Dacia)

If you're going to splurge on elite motorsport, you may as well use that maximum media exposure of the racecars to reinforce the brand's key visual elements; which, other than the self-evident brand logo and brand name themselves, happens to be an unmistakable light signature -- all the more so during night endurance racing. Viewers can then relate the racecar to the actual BMWs seen in the street, i.e. identify it as a true BMW as opposed to some obscure team kit car, and ideally be inspired to go to a showroom and buy one.

They're probably spearheading the Neue Klasse style a bit too early.

Interesting to see some of this stuff officially discussed.
