Rumors BMW 9-Series coming in 2020

No you stop it. Actually the i8 has a three cylinder which is unique to the i8. Plus its lighter and more innovative for more expensive sports cars.
Yet it does not cost multi-million euros. Its a headliner because it dares to be different. The next phase of i8 continues that. There will be more power and again it will still be the collective bargain of the decade.

The M760Li is fettled by the M Division under their M Performance line.
So they will introduce additional elements to distance the standard luxury filled 760Li from the alternative performance of the M760Li.

BMWs slogan is actually "Sheer Driving Pleasure"
The Ultimate Driving Machine is a phrase used only and by English speaking markets. And yes the X models are important to BMW just as Mercedes are developing more G models and Audi more Q models.
Its not going to change.

The M4 GTS is in fact a 4er. But it shows you the In depth transformation of a 4er. New engine with innovative technology and more Carbon fibre as an example the entire top section of the car is Carbon fibre.
Then you have excess weight removed whenever possible such as the wheel spokes. Its the competence that BMW have added to the GTS which will make it stand out. They have stripped their car to the bare minimum and applied more innovation and more performance but again at a unique price.
Is it any wonder why most countries have now sold their allocations.

haha im enjoying this.. i don't really give a f about BMW but its fun let's continue

It has a 3 cylinder sorry i forgot.. given that most things with 3 cylinders cost as much as the rimms on the I8, i wouldnt call it the bargain for the decade..
for instance this thing has 3 cylinders its way cheaper than a i8

Just like the S class is a cow being milked dry. A simple run off the mill production car costing more than a decent appartment (S65 AMG with 125 year old locomotive engine)? Now THAT's funny my man!

Hyperboles are lovely.

...BUT.... I really shouldn't involve MB into this as they have nothing to do with it. My bad!

no its just the best car on earth hhahah

So what's the real story? Is this really an 8 series disguised as a 9 series, or is just the VFL. If it was just a sedan and not a "Gran Coupe" why would CAR magazine give such a lengthy explanation?

"They gave the green light to a luxury coupe positioned between 7-series and the Rolls-Royce Ghost. Typically, a BMW coupe would wear an even numbered badge, but since management does not want to revive the little loved 8-series and does not own the rights to 10-series, 9-series is a likely designation."

Also, if it was a sedan why would an M9 even be considered when an M7 wasn't. Also if it was a VFL sedan why would it only have 7 series proportions?

"The four-door, four-seat coupe takes the Gran Coupe theme from the 4- and 6-series ranges, and supersizes it to long-wheelbase 7-series proportions."

And if it were BMW's intentions to create a driver oriented large luxury saloon, wouldn't it make more sense to develop a gran coupe instead of a larger sedan for a bigger differentiation from the 7 series and a greater representation of "sporty?"

Agree. I think BMW should position this car as the sporty alternative in the segment. Therefore a 4dr coupe makes a lot of sense. I always say I like much more the Cs Concept than the VFL. The CS was the ultimate BMW.

So.......who owns the rights to the 10 series name? I have this feeling its a brand like Philips or Siemens with some personal grooming device or something.

The CS was the ultimate BMW.

VFL IMO looks better. But either way, it's going to be a magnificent looking car.

Well if you look at it. The VFL does its best impression to look both a Sedan and a Coupe. The extended wheelbase allows for a more coupe-esque roofline.

The C-Pillar flows more coupe esque and in the modern BMW direction of where the wheel arch begins and of course the shortened rear deck lends itself to something you would expect to see in a Coupe. If you judge the different heights of the people in the background you can see it is a very low car again like a Coupe. But with the space of a Sedan.

Of course we have been here before. Almost 10 years ago.
It is good to look back and reminisce.

The X7 has been on a familiar journey, falling at the first hurdle, then the second and finally making production on the third attempt. There will be an X7 teaser in 2016 just to let you (and everybody) know that its coming.

Strangely enough. The 9er will be BMWs third attempt also.
Originally envisioned by Wolfgang Reitzle in the late eighties and to carry a V16 engine developed under project Goldfish. This was Reitzle's way to put BMW ahead of their Stuttgart neighbours(remember Audi were just re bodied VWs back then).
The late eighties economic crisis killed the project.

Then came the CS Concept car which also fell to economic events.
Even though the car still lives on as it became two cars. The specialised chassis, extended is found under the Rolls-Royce Ghost. And the ghost of the CS is found within the 6er Gran Coupe.

Now it is all ahead for the first 9er. Because it can now be developed from the new architecture instead of being independently developed, costs are saved between BMW and Rolls-Royce.
The CS died and the Ghost survived because Ghost is far more profitable, even more so when every Ghost leaving GoodWood has some form of Bespoke application.

Jesus Christ... Still the best looking thing BMW has designed.

That CS was flawless.

Still a timeless beauty isn't it?
And the clowns at BMW refused to make it- I sometimes wonder if they are brain wrecked.

The front lights look old though imo. But yeah it's timeless beauty. Still the VFL looks better. I'm in a minority here though it appears...
It may look a bit old but it is still better than a lot out there now.
It is a shame we never got to see it in commercial form.

I really think the CS concept is a more beautiful emotional looking car than the VFL concept, although like Klier pointed out the frontal styling perhaps looks slightly out of date compared to latest BMW design themes.

Here is a comparison of both concepts VFL on top in all pics:

The only thing that has aged on the CS is the headlight design. I like the VFL ones a lot. The VFL has some really nice proportions as well. But I am not sold on the details. The side lines are not as good lookig as the CS ones, the lower side profle is a huge step backwards IMO. The kidneys need to be much much wider and mimic the shape of the CS ones. On the VFL they make it look pig-ish. And the rear end of the VLF looks a bit like the Iron Man face, with the rearlights having a so so shape at best. Both interiors look very good, but the CS is from 2008, and still would look amazing on a street car. It is sportier and fits better with the look I would like a top BMW to have.

The VFL looks fancy and expensive, but I don´t think it is the best thing the brand has designed recently, and could see it aging in a much worse way than the CS. And, to be honest, I always found much more interesting the idea of a four door coupe as flagship for a brand like BMW than a larger sedan.

To sum up, the VFL is great, but the CS was exciting.

The kidneys need to be much much wider and mimic the shape of the CS ones. On the VFL they make it look pig-ish.

The kidneys going up into the hood on the VFL may be what gives it that pig-ish look.

Also, to me the CS is a four door coupe while the VFL is a sleek sedan.

Personally, I think the CS Concept had a beautiful body, but the face looked like an angry catfish punched in the face. VFL maybe isn't as sexy overall, but if I had to pick one or the other, it would be VFL, no question.

All the good bits from the CS can be found on the 6GC, or the F01 7-er IMO... VFL is unlike anything BMW currently offer (though that may change as it seems this design language is coming hard and fast)

Can you choose between your children? I can't :( love em both. I thought I liked the VFL better but after seeing them side by side again like this I just don't know.

Interior is even harder, both look modern and fantastic.

And the dials of the CS almost look like an expensive Swiss watch. So much better than those screens we get lately:

The VFL has got some nice features in its design, the profile looks the best view for me as its very sleek and elegant, I like the short front overhang and pointy bonnet, headlight join. The front grill has a throwback to yesteryear with a slight negative angle similar to the shark nose of the E23 7-series, although the very slim lights look slightly odd with those huge kidneys. The rear 3/4 shot also looks great cause it accentuates the fantastic pronounced wheelarch bulges/lips which makes it look broad and muscular.

But the CS is so beautiful. It looks so sensual and is like comparing Jennifer Lopez (VFL) with Sofia Vergara (CS) where the one has great looking big hips and rounded rear and a good looking sexy face, but the other is so drop dead gorgeous with perfect body proportions that you cant help but staring in amazement.

The CS is stunning from all angles, sensual and sporty for sure. The front design would have looked fantastic if they brought it into production, better in my opinion than the latest BMW headlight meets grill design. Then you have that wonderful sloping roof at the back and that amazingly taut rear end. Now imagine the latest 7-series looked like this car but with a slightly more upright glasshouse, I think that it would be THE car in this segment for looks and would probably attract more buyers than the current conservative styling would.
