BMW 555i to Debut for MY ‘09

Naming aside am I the only one drooling about the tuning perspective of a 4.8 TT engine? Should be relatively easy to hit BHP in the 500s bringing it into M5 territory but at a reduced weight. Nice one.

Considering the V8 first used in the 5er was called the 545i, with a lesser powered V8 called the 540i, this is no different. Just now it's the 550i and 555i!

It's 4.4 liter actually, but you're right; the tuning potential is very big.

I won't be surprised if it still remains the 550i with the N64B44 engine (4.4litre V8 TT)

After looking at the current 4.8 V8 NA(N63B48) engine, i can see adding twin turbo to designate that the 5.5 litre NA equivalent engine which is a weapon of the future. So chances are, we may not see the 555i designation with the N64B44 engine but with the N64B48 engine.

The N64B48 will not be a feature in this current chassis but possibly in the F10 chassis which precludes it from being a MY 2009. My rationale is simple- we are yet to see or hear anything about it yet.

2009 BMW 555i Spotted In California?

Attentive Jalopnik reader Brian Lopes was out-and-about when he spotted something slightly off about this new 5-Series BMW parked over the weekend in Long Beach, California. The badging indicates that this is a "555i" BMW. Those who have been following the company know that this latest version of the aging E60 is rumored to be getting a version of the 4.4L, twin-turbo N64 V8 good for about 400 horsepower and 450 ft.-lbs. of torque. The word on the street was that this was set to sneak out in 2009, so the chances of it running around in public are fairly slim and our BMW sources indicate that they have no knowledge of that model existing (though, they would say that wouldn't they?). Most likely, then, this is a regular 5-series owned by someone who purchased an extra badge and did the work themselves. Still, dare to dream.

Superb engine, perfect for the bigger cars which aren't exactly flying with the X35i engine under the bonnet.

I dunno Luw, the twin turbo 3.0 liter is a pretty amazing powerplant, one of the best I've had the chance to try. Plus remember, it's close to V8....

With a regular 5er now having 400 hp... has the M5's power bottom become obsolete? Should it have 500 hp at start?

Look how much attention the guy got
I will put a a 655i badge on my 6 and park by time square in NYC and wait for pics to show up here. :D ;)

Will the E60 get the new TT V8?
Asking as my dealer says that 555i is coming in spring next year.

I highly doubt they will bring the engine while the new generation is so close.
