Videos BMW 550i Touring vs Audi 4.2 Quattro Avant

Very nice video.

Audi needs to upgrade their 4.2l engine which is getting old now.

I like it when they are stopping from 100 to 0 together...it looks so cool.

thanx for sharing!

To be quite honest, the BMW probably didn't win by a large margin because Audi Avants are so competent when it comes to this segment. It is just a great car overall. The only thing I have to complain about the Audi is that you have to load a music cd in the glovebox? Not very convenient I don't think.

Btw, what is up with these German test drivers going crazy in a wet small road? They have some guts.

you can clearly see that 550i is going through those cones much more elegant than A6.

I agree. Very stupid and annoying if you ask me.

ad yes the winner was the bimmer :)

I know that the bimmer wins performance and handling, but when it comes to AWD and winter, I'd chose Audi anyday over BMW, MB, Porsche.

so you would consider a 5er and MB with 4WD drive instead of a RWD 5er and E-class?

Well I havent had any problems with RWD cars during wintertime. Put som good tires and use your brain while driving and you will be fine. My experiences that is :eusa_danc

I think that that is a really popular misconception. Unless you live in a hilly place and get a ton of snow at the same time, AWD is just not necessary. Don't get me wrong, Quattro is the best 4wd system in the world IMO, but if there was as much as as there was in the video, it's not necessary. Here's the deal:

1. 4wd with snow tires
2. rwd with snow tires
3. 4wd with all year tires
4. rwd with all year tires

That's how it's ranked. 4wd drive is good for moving the car along, but it's useless without winter tires because you can't stop and you can't corner. Remember, the tire is the only thing touching the road.

you forgot:

5. 4wd with R-tyres
6. rwd with R-tyres

:D

If you are crazy enough to try those in winter conditions I guess :usa7uh:
